Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom  State has maintained that living separately with one’s spouse is not a healthy way of maintaining a good home.

He has also maintained that a home built on God’s ordinances would breed love and happiness.

Mr Emmanuel who spoke during a special Thanksgiving Service to celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday at the Government House Chapel in Uyo, Monday, said they have never lived apart, describing the 24 years union as a good journey.

“At times people marry and let their wives to go and live in other countries. We’ve been together all through twenty-four years plus and  it’s just by the mercies and Grace of God”, he stated.

While thanking God for his wife, on her fiftieth birthday, Governor Emmanuel said gratitude is necessary because “every year is a bonus and you have not done anything to merit that year”.

“People should imbibe the spirit of daily gratitude to God for life, as they cannot determine for themselves to see the following day.

“There are people who are born and yet die the same day. People were born and die at year two, year three, year ten and so on.

“Every year you see is a bonus, that is why we must thank God when we live up to fifty years. I thank God for life and for sustaining us”.

While describing the attainment of  50 years as a milestone, Governor  Emmanuel acknowledged the Grace of God on his wife and his family and thanked the people for sharing in their moment of joy.

The First Lady, Dr (Mrs) Martha Emmanuel,  thanked God for his benevolence on her through childhood to the golden phase of her life.
“It’s good to be fifty. What can I say to this awesome God? Someone like me; I’m so proud to be fifty.

“When I use to hear people talk about fifty, I was telling myself, when will I get there. By the Grace of God today I am fifty, Hallelujah!”

Mrs Emmanuel particularly expressed gratitude to God for blessing her with a loving husband, who has been there for her and the children, adding that given another life, Governor Emmanuel would remain her hearthrob.

“God has given me a good husband. God has given me good children. God has blessed my home.

“I always tell people that care to know that I have the best husband in this whole world. A man that puts me first before any other person, even the children”, she acknowledged.

Preaching on the theme ” Fulfilling Destiny” taken from Jeremiah 1:5 and Psalm 40:7-8, Bishop Emma Isong admonished that every person is a book written by God to fulfill a purpose on earth.

He said with the understanding that destiny is predetermined by God, man does not need to go out of his way to become anything in life but should yield to God’s direction to attain his destiny.

The thanksgiving service which featured songs of praise and prayers had in attendance, members of the first family of the state, members of the state Executive and Legislative Council and their spouses, the political class, fathers of faith, aides of the Governor among others.
