Youths of Usung Inyang Community in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have spoilt for war with the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the vandalisation and destruction of the school security fence in their community.
The youths in their numbers said they were alarmed to see their prestigious school being destroyed by certain elements, warranting their intervention to stop the carnage.
They said their prompt intervention was in line with the charge by the state Governor, for communities to be observant and to always stop vandals from destroying public facilities.
However, the vandalism which involved the breaking down of fence and other facilities at the Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Eket/Oron Road, was prevented by the gallant youths, numbering over 500.
It was discovered that a former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Victor Antai, who led the attack on the school facility, came out to plead that he be allowed to continue in the dastardly act.
Mr Antai explained that the fence was merely destroyed as a prelude to the usage of the school compound for a campaign rally in respect of the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Nsima Ekere.
He assured that once the rally is over, the M.D. of the agency will sponsor the replacement of the fence and other facilities.
The youths who told him and the other APC agents that Ekid Idediongo, means Ekid build and not Ekid destroy, vowed not to allow him and his cohorts to further destroy the school property.
Efforts by the chairman of the area, Frank Archibong, the security agents and other stakeholders to pacify the youths have so far proved abortive, with the youths insisting on spending the night in the arena.
