A notorious rapist, Sunday Ikaka Eduok, has been remanded in prison over defilement of a minor.

Ikaka who appeared before a Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Nsit Ubium on Tuesday, was charged in a two-count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor and attempted murder.

The police prosecutor informed the court that the suspect has been in the practice of terrorizing the lives of the people in the village and raping women, both old and young, on their way to the farm.

Sunday Ikaka, 30, an indigene of Ibiakpan Obotim in Ndiya, Nsit Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended by the Councilor representing Ndiya Ward 2, Hon Pastor Anne Abraham, following a tipoff call from the youths of the area.

It was learnt that Ikaka allegedly Hypnotized a 15-year old girl (names withheld) from a makeshift hotel in Okon Eket where she was said to be working as drinks attendant, to his uncompleted building in Ndiya, and be having carnal knowledge with her on blocks arranged in form of a bed.

Trouble however started when the victim regained her consciousness and tried to return home, but he beat her up with machete and attempted to bury her alive to hide his devilish act.

According to the victim, “I was working in a hotel in Okon Eket where I used to be a sell drinks. The suspect came to pay for a hotel room.

“He told me that he like me and would like to marry me. I didn’t accept it. He went and informed my Master and I insisted.

“I don’t know how I realized myself in his village. When I asked him where he was taking me to, he said I should not worry. He has been having sex with me since that time.

“My mom is late and father has neglected us because he is married to another woman.”

But for the timely intervention of the Councilor representing Ndiya Ward 2, Hon Pastor Anne Abraham, the victim would have been buried alive by the suspect as machete cuts were found all over her body and head, and her cloth removed from a shallow grave-like pit in his backyard.

The victim was taken to the Police Hospital for treatment and later handed over to Obonganwan Patricia Essien Obot, a member of the Gender-Based Violent Committee headed by the wife of the Governor, Dr Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel.

When the matter was mentioned at the court, the Chief Magistrate ordered that the suspect be taken to the Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, Ikot Ekpene while the case was transfered to the High Court.

Speaking after the court ruling, Hon Pastor Anne Abraham, who doubles as the Chief Whip of the Nsit Ubium 7th Legislative Council, said the move was in line to interpret the dreams of the state government against defilement of the young girls.

She said “I am from the same village with the suspect. I had a distress call from the youths of the area and I ran to the scene and was shocked at what I found out.

“When we went to the suspect’s resident for inspection, we discovered that he was living and harboring the victim in an uncompleted building without a roof. Even his bed is made of arrangements of blocks without anything to cover.”

“I strongly believe that the law will have its course on him and whatever will be the judgement is what he will face, to serve as deterrent to others.”
