The Councilor for Ndiya Ward 2 and Chief Whip, Nsit Ubium 7th Legislative Council, Hon Pastor Anne Abraham, has moved to remodel an abandoned market in her community.
Flagging off the over 50 years abandoned Udua Odiong (Ndiya Market) on Friday, the Councilor noted that a “market is a vital component of any system, institution, procedure, social relation or infrastructure, whereby members of the community engage in exchange of goods and services.
“It facilitates trade and enables the distribution and resource allocation in a society.”
She added that lack of market affects the growth and productivity of a society adversely, hence her decision to remodel the hitherto abandoned Udua Odiong to a modern standard.
Hon Anne who marked 100 days in office on Friday, evacuated a heap of dirts from the market which had turned to a dump site, assuring it is just the first phase.
She maintained that the market is not for a particular political party but for the benefit of the people of the community, to improve their means of livelihood.
It could be recalled that Hon Pastor Anne Abraham, barely two weeks after taking oath of office, organized a Unity football tournament within the four villages of Ndiya Ward 2 – Ikot Akpanofuk, Ikot Ukap, Ikot Ewang and Usung Inyang – where Ikot Akpanofuk merged winner.
She thanked the wife of the Governor, Dr Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, for the opportunity to serve her community.
According to her, the Governor’s wife has a dream and “we are the people to help her interpret those dreams, and I am one of the councillors who are interpreting those dreams.
“It is the heart cry of the Governor’s wife to see women progress by the day. Whatever I’m doing is exactly in line with her dreams.”
The Councilor also thanked the Political leader of Ndiya Ward 2 and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (retd), whom she said has been supporting her to success.
Market women, men and youths of the community showered encomiums on the Councilor for her visionary leadership quality, and pledged to support her to her highest political career.
At the event were Elder Essien Essien who performed the flagoff ceremony, Monday Kofi Akpabio, youth and women leaders, market men and women in the community among others.
