The tournament, which commences on Sunday, 20th December 2020, with a kickoff, will have the four villages of the ward locking horns for the trophy on to Sunday, 3rd January, 2021.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Friday, Councilor for Ndiya Ward 2 and Chief Whip of the 7th Nsit Ubium Legislative Council, Hon. Pastor (Mrs) Anne Abraham, stressed that nothing unites the people like football because the tournament ends all differences.
She thanked the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and wife, Martha for their relentless efforts in making Akwa Ibom the most peaceful state, and assured of her commitment to place priority in ensuring unity among the four villages – Ikot Akpanofuk, Ikot Ukap, Ikot Ewang and Usung Inyang – in Ndiya Ward 2.
Describing Ndiya Ward 2 as a virgin ward, Hon. Abraham maintained that Councilor’s Unity Cup is not a one-party affair, and implored the people to join hands together towards achieving the goal of unity and progress to prepare way for the influx of great things into the ward.
Thanking the political leader of the ward, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (retd) a.k.a Ikwa Afang, for his role in uniting Ndiya as a whole, the Councilor called on all sons and daughters of Ndiya to eschew all forms bitterness and embrace peace for the growth of the ward.
While unveiling the football emblems for the tournament, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Otuekong Nse Edem, commended the Councilor for the foresight ambition to bring the people together, and prayed God to endow her with wisdom and grace to continue the good works.
He prayed that the competition will bring togetherness, unity, progress, love and all good things that will make Ndiya great again.
High point of the meeting was presentation of jersey by Chairman of the central working committee, Rt. Hon. Abraham Abraham, to representatives of the four teams.
The meeting was well attended by a former Special Assistant to the governor and Mkpisong in the traditional rulers council Nsit Ubium, Dr. Enefiok Edem; Mr Monday Samuel; Monday Koffi, political leaders of the ward, party executives in Ndiya Ward 2, elders of the party, women and youths.
