Obio Offot Celebrates Annual Day, Reiterates Support For Governor Emmanuel

The people of Obio Offot community in Uyo Local Government Area, both at home and in the diaspora, were on Tuesday gathered at the St Mary’s Primary School for their annual Day Celebration.
Encomiums were poured on the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the numerous developmental strides in the community including construction of internal roads which they said was the first in the history of Obio Offot.
They unanimously pledged their unalloyed support for the Governor come 2019 and beyond.
Chairman of the occasion, Sir. Christopher Donald Effiom, while speaking on the theme “Obio Offot Arise”, stated that Obio Offot was beginning to rise above mediocrity, low self-esteem and inferiority complex through the massive mobilisation and reorientation of the psych of the Obio Offot person.
“We have risen above self hate, poverty and illiteracy, though we have not reached the ultimate goal but close to the promised land.”
He added that the spirit of Dakkada, as promoted by the present state government under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, is worthwhile, and has translated to the sons and daughters of the community to match with other people across the globe.
“Our sons and daughters are shown the way forward, women encouraged and carried along in the scheme of things. We are seeing Obio Offot where illiteracy will be reduced to its barest minimum, young people able to take care of themselves through honest means, love for each other thrives, genuine developments come to stay, and where God reigns.”
The Village Head of Obio Offot, Eteidung Cyril Umanah, in his speech, commended the Governor for his choice of Charles Udoh KSJ, a proud son of Obio Offot community, as Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, whom he said, has brought numerous programmes for the people of Obio Offot including the recently organized free medical outreach where over 482 people of the community were diagnosed with various ailments and treated free of charge.
Dr. Okon Udoh and Hon. Solomon Tom, in their goodwill messages, expressed appreciation to Governor Emmanuel for his commitment towards youth empowerment and development of Obio Offot in particular and the state at large through the Commissioner and wife, towards enlarging the coasts of the growing populace, by appointing youths of the community as Personal Assistants and other offices in the state.
They enumerated other programmes of the Commissioner in the community, to include sponsorship of football competitions to identify, develop and build talents, lofty monthly prayer meetings for women, men and youths, as well as routine visits of different five units of the community, which they said, have brought huge development to the community in the recent times.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh KSJ, thanked the people for recognizing and appreciating the developmental strides of the Governor in Obio Offot community, adding that Governor Emmanuel is committed to do more.
He stressed that “It is the Governor who has created the enabling environment for us to do all that we are doing for the development of the community and its environs.”
“In the last three and a half years, we have been able to sleep with our both eyes closed without fear of being kidnapped or assassinated; there is sufficient food as price of staple food has been subsidized through the provision of rice mill, cassava processing factory and fertilizer blending plant. By this time next year, food will be more affordable than this,” he added.
The Commissioner, who was Special Guest of Honour, tasked the people to get their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) ready in order to be eligible to vote Udom Emmanuel as Governor for second term in the forthcoming 2019 elections, for continuous sustainability of governance.
He charged the people not to allow themselves to be deceived and misled by those on the other divides with their lies and propaganda, disclosing that they built and commissioned an empty structure and called it a hotel.
“They lied to have constructed an airport but squandered the whole money for the project. Over N71 billion was approved for the 25km Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road project but the road was abandoned with only 3km constructed, and many other mismanagement of public funds during the last administration.”
Charles Udoh KSJ used the occasion to announce that over 482 people benefited in the just concluded Charles Udoh Free Medical Outreach held at the Fidel Medical Centre, Obio Offot, about 20 people registered for one year free medical treatment in the community with medical bills fully paid by him, promising to increase the number.
He presented trophies to participating teams in the just concluded Charles Udoh Unity Cup 2018 where Nnung Efa FC emerged winner while All Stars FC and Nnung Akpan FC took second and third places respectively, and thanked the participants for the peaceful contest throughout the tournament.
The winning team went home with the sum of N200,000, while N150,000 was presented to second place winner and N100,000 each was given to the third place winner and Obio Offot who won the 9th edition of Utang Akwa Ibom Unity Cup 2018 trophy.
Wife of the Commissioner, Mrs. Regina Charles Udoh, promised to host children of the community during the Easter period.
Highpoints of the event, which was well attended by sons and daughters of the community, were performances by cultural troupes, women and youth groups, and raffle draw.
