The Councilor-elect representing Ndiya Ward 2 in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Mrs Anne Abraham, has been issued certificate of return.

She received the certificate of return alongside 367 other Councilors-elect, Chairmen-elect and vice chairmen, at the Civil Service Auditorium, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo on Tuesday.

Speaking shortly after the ceremony, Hon Anne expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and wife, Martha and for bringing women to limelight, and pledged to work in line with that policy and ensure that every girl hold returns to school.

She commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for promptness and being firm throughout the elections in the state.

Hon Anne also thanked the people of Ndiya Ward 2 for their support for her to represent them, and promised to make them proud as she will work along with the women, elders and youths of the ward.

The Councilor-elect expressed optimism that she would have a good working relationships with the Chairman-elect of Nsit Ubium LG, Arch Iniobong Orok, describing him as a man with a lot of potential, unity, intelligence and integrity who will take Nsit Ubium to a greater height.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman, Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Obong Aniedi Ikoiwak, thanked Governor Emmanuel for standing and ensuring that the election was conducted despite dwindling economy both at the state and national levels occasioned by the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the challenges would have forced the Governor to proscribe the elections but he remained resolute.

Obong Ikoiwak congratulated the Chairmen-elect, vice chairmen and Councilors-elect for going through the huddles of elections and came out victorious, adding that the issuance of the certificates of return indicates that they won.

The AKISIEC boss maintained that the era has gone when people waited for election results to be announced on radio, maintaining that the law permits winners to be declared at the units.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Rt Hon. Frank Archibong, in his goodwill message, particularly commended Governor Emmanuel for ensuring Akwa Ibom remains the most peaceful state, notwithstanding the challenges that came in the year.

He also thanked the AKISIEC chairman for ensuring there was free, fair, transparent and credible Chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.

Congratulating the chairmen-elect with their vices and Councilors-elect, Rt Hon Archibong reminded them that they are sworn in to serve and not for self aggrandisement, and wished them successful tenures.
