Ahead of the forthcoming local government election slated for October this year by Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission
(AKISIEC), a leading aspirant in the Chairmanship race in Ibeno Local Government Area, High Chief Williams Mkpah, has listed job and wealth creation, healthcare delivery, quality education, infrastructure among others as some of his developmental agenda.

Speaking on Monday at the Chapter secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party, Upenekang when he consulted the chapter, ward executives and other stakeholders of the party, to intimate them of his aspiration, Chief Mkpah promised to run an open door administration where the interest of Ibeno people would be accommodated.

Addressing the party executives and members, the Chairmanship hopeful who is favoured by the zoning arrangement in the area, said time has come for the people of Ibeno to get it right by choosing quality leadership that would at all times defend and promote the interest of all. He solicited their support ahead of the party primary scheduled for this week, and promised never to disappoint them.

“My mission is about the future of Ibeno people. The Quality of Leadership to a large extent determines whether or not a society will achieve excellence in mitigating challenges strewn out by life.
Quality Education, Decent Healthcare, Job/wealth creation and security etc,are some of the basic needs of every society”.

“Today, we are all aware of the damage Covid-19 pandemic has done to the fiber of our society, our existence as human beings currently is being threatened by this disease, our economy has not been spared and our future collectively seems bleak all because of the scourge of this unpleasant Covid-19”.

“It is my Opinion, that in times like this, the quality of Leadership is what truly would make a difference. It is only effective and Quality leadership that would steer the ship smoothly in these rough and turbulent seas and lead us ashore”.

On that note, Local Government Elections are here again in Akwa Ibom and obviously we know that the closest tier of Government to the people of the grassroots is the Local Government, thereby making it imperative that we must get it right this time.

Ibeno Local Government which is my local government of origin is a land blessed with inexhaustible Crude oil, breath taking Historical and Tourist sites, a Natural white and soft sand beach that stretches over 30km, Amazing Human resources and Aquatic Splendor.

All of these aforementioned will mean absolutely nothing and go to ruin if we do not get it right at the LG polls.

He promised to build a secondary school at Okoroutip to cater for the rising population of students in the area occasioned by the free and compulsory education programme of the state government.

The aspirant however expressed regret that the few available secondary schools in the area were overstretched, hence there was a need for a new school.

Chief Mkpah, a former Transition Chairman who barely few months in office laid the foundation stone for a befitting secretariat complex, said if he becomes the next Council Chairman, he would ensure new roads were opened up, provide grants to fishermen, traders, connect areas where there are no electricity to the national grid, and also promised to pay yearly bursary to Ibeno students in tertiary institutions.

Speaking earlier, the Director General of his campaign Team, Apostle Samuel Ekah described Chief Mkpah as a well exposed and experienced gentleman who understands the problems of an Ibeno people, and has the capacity to address their needs.

Describing him as a Community leader with a community spirit, Apostle Ekah, a former Youth Leader and currently an aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel said the aspirant enjoys the support of Ibeno stakeholders and enjoined every one to cue behind his aspirant to enable him move Ibeno from where it is to the desired destination that everyone would be proud of.

Also speaking, a former Council Chairman, Bishop Okon Ukpe Afaiko, immediate past State Officer of the party, Hon. Ukpong Dan, and the Woman Leader of PDP in Ibeno, all spoke glowingly of Chief Mkpah’s aspiration, and expressed confidence in his capacity.

Reacting, the PDP Chapter Chairman for Ibeno, Hon. Emah Ibok, while welcoming the chairmanship aspirant and his team to the party secretariat, commended him for deeming it necessary to consult the party, and described him as a good and loyal party man who has paid his dues.

He advised him to brace up to task ahead, positing that Ibeno remains a PDP enclave, and assured him of the support of the party.

Present during at the consultation were chapter and ward executive members of the party drawn from the 10 wards in the local government area.
