A former Vice Chairman in Eket Local Government Area and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Ekanem Willie, is optimistic that Hon. Akaniyene Tommey Ikott, if given opportunity, will make a chairman of choice for Eket.
He expressed the optimism on Wednesday when the Hope Alive Campaign Organisation paid a consultation visit at his Eket home, saying that Hon. Akaniyene’s mould will pave way for him as a candidate of choice in the forthcoming local government chairmanship race.
Rt. Hon. Willie who spoke of the chairmanship aspirant as a gentle, humble, respectful and hardworking young man, said “I have followed you keenly and I’ve observed that given an opportunity, you won’t make a bad chairman.
“But as you know, power belongs to God and He gives it to whoever He wishes. As you are consulting men, endeavour to also consult God.”
The former Vice Chairman enjoined all sons and daughters in Eket Local Government to be interested in whoever represents them at any time “because whatever happens in Eket affects all of us either positively or negatively.”
He charged Hon. Akaniyene to continue in his credible performances even as Councilor to augment on the performances of the outgoing Chairman, Frank Archibong, who he said did well especially in the area of human capital development, adding that his performance led to his appointment as Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Rt. Hon. Willie promised to be patriotic with his recent appointment as member in the State Technical School Board for the good of Eket people.
Presenting the aspirant, the Director General, Hope Alive Campaign Organisation, Chief A. S. Idim, informed the people that Hon. Akaniyene is sellable and marketable product who will not fail the people of Eket if elected Chairman of the local government.
He said if as a Councillor, Hon. Akaniyene was able construct many internal roads, build houses for widows, build and renovate school blocks and construct boreholes in all the villages in his community, if elected chairman, Eket will be a force to reckon with.
The train continued the consultation tour to Odio, Ward 1 Central, Ward 3 Central and Urban 4, where the people pledged unalloyed support for Hon. Akaniyene and promised to give him their total votes during the poll.
In his address, the Chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Akaniyene Tommey Ikott, thanked the people of Eket for their confidence in him and promised an inclusive government where all indigenes of Eket local government would benefit positively.
The chairmanship hopeful who is known by his prowess in matching words with action, assured the people that his government will be an all-inclusive for youths, women, elders of Eket.
Political leaders, elders and all executives of the visited wards including Councillors, Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, women leaders, youth leaders, treasurers, PROs, organizing secretaries, financial secretaries and ex-officios as well as legal advisers, were present at the occasion.
