Akwa Ibom State Government has ordered immediate seal off on the Nung Akpa Ime branch of Christ Embassy, Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Uyo.
A release by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, on Sunday revealed that the lock up of the church building followed the disruption, attack and brutality by some pastors and members of the church on the monitoring team who were on a routine to check the level of compliance to the guidelines adopted by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The team for Uyo Capcity led by Prince Enobong Uwah arrived the Church about 11am after going round other Churches only to meet over six able bodied men blocking the entrance to the church whose gate was locked with padlock, as they ordered the monitoring team to leave.
All efforts by Prince Uwah, the state chairman of CAN, Rev. Dr. Ndueso Ekwerre, Dr Stella Udoh and other representatives of security agencies to gain access into the church premises proved abortive.
In response to the act of lawlessness by the Church, and in order to avoid the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, the Christ Embassy Church building and premises are hereby sealed up till further notice.
The suspected Pastors and relevant members of the church will be made to face the wrath of the law.
