Akwa Ibom State Government is to link 265 villages to electricity as part of efforts toward actualizing the Power-For-All-Initiative by December 2021.

The Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh made this known on Friday in Uyo while briefing Government House Correspondents at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

Sir Udoh disclosed that, among the decisions taken at the State Executive meeting, Council mandated the Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperatives to commence electrification of 265 villages that were without electricity to facilitate the actualization of Power- For-All Initiative by the end of 2021 of the State Government.

“You are aware that there are 2274 gazetted villages in Akwa Ibom State, from that number it was reported that 265 villages spread across 27 Local Government Areas in the State are without electricity, so in pursuance of the dream to achieve Power- For-All initiative by 2021, Exco has approved the commencement of the electrification project in those villages”, the Information Boss stated.

“However, the electrification of the 265 villages will be done in phases based on budgetary provisions and through direct labour”, Udoh added.

The State Spokesman further hinted that the Council also received briefings from Ministries, Departments and Agencies on efforts made towards actualisation of the completion agenda of the second term administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
