The Member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals Rt. Hon. (DR) Michael Enyong on Wednesday, 19th February 2020, led honourable members of the committee on an oversight visit to the Solid Minerals Development Fund office.
The chairman and members were received by the Executive Secretary of the Agency Hajiaya Fatima Shinkafi and the management staff.
During the oversight visit, the indefatigable chairman appraised the budget performance of the 2019 budget of the agency as presented by the Executive Secretary who also highlighted the challenges of the agency which includes difficulties in accessing capital to finance mining project from the National Resources Fund as well as low level funding and equipping the Solid Mineral Development Fund to perform its statutory functions as a medium of investment in new mineral assets.
In response, the Committee Chairman reiterated his commitment to dialogue with relevant authorities to ensure that capital benefits meant for the operations of the agency is given due approvals.
The oversight visit also involved a tour around the agency’s facilities and inspection of activities in different departments.
Solid Minerals Development Fund office is one out of the five  agencies under Hon Dr. Michael Enyong’s legislative supervision and oversight. Others are Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mining Cadastral Office, Geological Survey Agency and Institute of Mining Geo-sciences.
