Governor Udom Emmanuel is a unifying factor that has broken all known barriers to put Akwa Ibom and indeed Nigeria on the pathway of unity.
The Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh, made this known on Wednesday during a Live Radio interview programme on Passion 94.5 FM.
He said Governor Emmanuel, in organizing the burial of his late father, late Pa Gabriel Emmanuel Nkanang, defied political, ethnic and religious barriers to unite the people in his assemblage of notable Akwa Ibomites and Nigerians who came together happily, sat together and shared freely during the funeral and thanksgiving service in Awa Iman, ONNA LGA of the state.
Sir Charles Udoh emphasized that, though Nigeria is a multi-party society, with elections successfully over in most states of Nigeria until about 2023, particularly in Akwa Ibom, it is just right for all to sheath political swords, bury ethnic and religious sentiments and toe the line of Governor Udom Emmanuel in breaking all barriers to forge on unity which according to him, is very fundamental in development and progress.
He said Governor Emmanuel is a focused and God-fearing leader who does not bring propaganda into development, but consciously plowing resources into projects that are enduring and with life touching impact on the people across all sectors of the state.
The Information Boss maintained that Akwa Ibom is now sitting pretty with 18 functional industries that are providing direct and indirect job opportunities for the teeming youths of the state, create wealth and alleviate poverty, adding that the Governor is doing all to promote entrepreneurial development in an effort to catapult the state economy from a public sector orientation to a private sector-driven economy.
To this end, Governor Emmanuel is targeting the churning out of 3000 entrepreneurs every six months in the state with the vigorous mounting of entrepreneurial clinics and expo by government for budding entrepreneurs through different organs like the Dakkada Enterprise Development centre, the Multilateral and Donor Agency Coordinating body, the Marketing and Brand Management outfit of government as well as the Bureau of Cooperatives, among others, Sir Udoh stated.
He said the present administration has performed creditably in all sectors like Power with the setting-up of injector power stations in different parts of the state to boost electricity which is very critical in the industrialization-drive of Governor Udom Emmanuel, reiterating that the goal of government is to ensure that every household in Akwa Ibom is linked to the National grid by December 2021, with the launch of the power for all initiative.
On Education Udoh said, massive rehabilitation has been undertaken in public schools to provide a congenial learning environment for pupils and students across the state.
Disclosing that, the Udom Emmanuel administration inherited about 2000 schools in very deplorable condition, the state spokesman said government has so far fixed 1500 of them adding that the exercise is ongoing as work on all the decaying schools cannot be undertaken in one swoop with the available resources at government disposal.
Udoh intimated that, to further enhance accommodation in public schools with the upsurge in enrollment, government has introduced modular classrooms while conscious efforts are also geared at improving on the schools’ curriculum to bring entrepreneurial and skill development to meet with the trending hi-tech and competing business world.
On Agriculture the Information Boss said, in addition to the drastic slash in market cost of staple foods like garri and vegetables, government is also providing revolving soft interest loans to farmers to encourage Agricultural ventures intimating that, over 2000 women are benefitting from a loan package of about N250,000 to N300,000 each.
Speaking on Health, Sir Udoh said, government has remodeled, re-equipped and upgraded secondary health institutions with state-of-the-art facilities in all the three senatorial districts of the state to make healthcare service delivery efficient and accessible to the people.
On roads, the Information Boss said, government has constructed numerous network of roads in the state to ease traffic congestion and also enhance evacuation of goods and produce from the hinterland to the city centre disclosing that, when the ring roads 3 and 2 are completed there will be new access for motorists within the town to decongest traffic especially along the shelter Afrique-axis of Oron road.
Reiterating that, the present administration is business conscious, the Information Commissioner said, government often take into consideration the Return on Investment, ROI in embarking on projects and undertaking investment ventures but however is committed to ensuring that, world class facility is put in place in all the three senatorial districts of the state for the benefit of the people, investors and tourists.
He therefore urged all to come together and join Governor Udom Emmanuel to project the state with one voice, one face and build Akwa Ibom of our dream in a progressive manner where the people will live above ethnic, political and religious bias and be known by the mention of Only God.
