Not less than 750 members of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (APC) to drum support for Governor Udom Emmanuel and other PDP candidates.
The defectors, led by Chief Eyibio Okon, were received into the PDP family by the State Party Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, on Friday when the Divine Mandate Campaign train arrived the Ibiono Ibom Council Headquarters.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Udom Emmanuel thanked the people of Ibiono Ibom for the show of support, and assured them that he would give more priority to the area in terms of granting their requests.
He hinted the people of plans by state government to partner with foreign groups to ensure the development of the Technical School in Ikot Ada Idem to enhance proper training of people to become entrepreneurs and self employed.
He said he had earlier captured Ikot Akata in Mkpat Enin and Ikot Ada Idem in its blue print to make them one of the best skill acquisition centers in the country.
“ExxonMobil has taken over Ikot Akata. They are designing it very soon. We wanted to give Ikot Ada Idem to an American or German Technical School that can give us what we want”
The State Chief Executive restated government’s commitment to the construction of the road leading to the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono’s house and complete the much mouthed 6.5km Use-Ikot Amama road which he said became an anthem by the immediate past administration without commensurate result.
Gov Emmanuel also announced the construction of a road in Ibiono Ibom to honour the late Cardinal Ekanem who hailed from the area for his contributions to the development of the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of Divine Mandate Campaign Organization, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, thanked the people for the support to Governor Emmanuel since 2015.
Senator Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) on his part, said Ibiono people would do the needful by voting massively for all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The member representing Ibibio Ibom at the State House of Assembly, Barr. Ime Okon; former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Ignatius Edet who recently defected from APC to PDP, and other speakers at the rally drummed up support for the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term.
