2019: Ini Spits Fire Over APC’s ‘Federal Might’ Plot
…AS GOVERNOR UDOM MARKS ITU MBUSO ROAD FOR CONSTRUCTION
By Umoh-Obong Kingsley
The people of Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have expressed anger over plans by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to conspire with the Federal Government to rig the forthcoming elections by using security apparatus to intimidate and scare people away from exercising their electoral rights.
The note of warning was sounded on Monday at the Council Secretariat, Odoro Ikpe, while receiving the state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and other PDP candidates who were on a campaign tour to the area, saying they are ready to resist the so-called ‘federal might’ in the state.
They stated categorically that if the APC-federal government dare tries to foment any trouble particularly in Ini during the elections, the people of the area would be left with no option than strike back in full force.
Reasons for their annoyance is not far-fetched from the fact that for eight uninterrupted years, the people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency were completely cut off from any shed of cover and social service from the Government of Akwa Ibom State, with no road, no functional hospital, neglect of the agro-economic life and other social amenities, making the area to lose relevance as the food basket of the state, until the arrival of Governor Udom Emmanuel who changed the story of the area.
The people however eulogized Governor Emmanuel for providing electricity in Ini local government after over 10 years of darkness, construction of the Odoro Ikpe – Arochukwu Road, Rice Mill and farms, Cocoa Processing Mill, and Cocoa Maintenance Scheme in the area, as well as takeover of the Community Primary School by government.
The Council Chairman, Hon Israel Edaesin; Ini PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Umah; youth leader, Comr. Ekomobong Iseh, in their separate goodwill messages, commended the Governor for changing the story and restoring the glory of the Food Basket of the state.
They reaffirmed their undaunted support for the Governor because according to them, he has delivered on all his social contracts to Ini people in terms of human capacity development and other projects, and reassured their resolve to return the over 57,000 votes to him in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
Also speaking, the member representing Ini State Constituency and the Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Ekpenyong Bassey a.k.a Iraq, noted that the people of Ini are not cowards, but are trustworthy and consistent people who are ready to deliver all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections, because they have enjoyed the dividends of democracy in the government of Udom Emmanuel.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Gloria Edet, speaking on behalf of the women, said “Ini people have benefited from your government unlike before when the local government was neglected. You have taken over the community primary school in the area. The garri processing plant has eased the stress from our women.”
Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel thanked the people for the show of love by coming out in their great numbers in appreciation for the numerous projects of his administration to them, and announced that construction would soon commence on the Itu Mbuso road with spur down to the paramount ruler’s palace.
He charged the people to be stingy with their votes by ensuring that not even a single vote goes to the opposition but all PDP candidates get 100% votes from the local government come 16th February and 2nd March 2019, as that is when their appreciation would be complete.
