The people of Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were in their best moments on Friday when the Divine Mandate campaign crew of the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, stormed the area with loads of social contracts.
The visibly elated crowd eulogised the Governor for lifting the plight of the local government area which had been marginalized by successive governments.
Apart from political inclusiveness of Ika people, they thanked the Governor for the network of roads and electricity provided in the area which they said had been in total darkness for a very long time.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Uwemedimoh Nwoko, in his speech, poured encomiums on Governor Emmanuel for the construction of Ika Kiet Road down to Azumine, Etim Ekpo – Achang – Ikot Ntiang – Ikot Asukpo Road, and internal road renovations as well as erecting electric poles and provision of transformers in Ika LGA.
Former deputy governor of the state and PDP candidate for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Sen. Chris Ekpenyong aka Ukarakpa, stated that a good in-law is better than a bad brother, saying “Someone from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District governed the state for eight years but Ika LGA was marginalized and neglected. Another person from another senatorial district included and developed Ika within three and a half years in office. Such a person deserves a second term.”
The atmosphere got even more electrified when the Governor requested for a date to meet with the youths in appreciation for embracing and maintaining peace in the local government.
Rt Hon Anthony Udousung, Hon Iboro Nelson, and Godswill Dickson Udom, Council Chairman, chapter chairman and youth leader respectively, in their separate goodwill messages, assured the Governor of over 47,721 votes come 2nd March.
On her part, Mrs Inibehe Silas Etukudo, who spoke on behalf of women, stated that Ika women have no reason not to support the Governor for second term because he is the first Governor to ever brought development to the LGA, adding “We will all relocate our kitchens to the polling units.”
In his response, Governor Udom Emmanuel, thanked the people for the overwhelming crowd which he said signified that Ika is totally PDP following the huge development by his administration.
He promised to establish an agro-allied factory in Ika to create job opportunities for the people and put food on the tables of the teeming youths.
The Governor charged traders of the community to embrace the over N300,000 interest free loan by the government rather than reduce themselves to mockery with N5000 from the opposition in the name of empowerment which cannot cater for their families.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of Divine Mandate campaign organisation, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, thanked the people for standing for the truth, and recalled how the local government was in 2015 when the Divine Mandate team visited the area, and expressed joy that there is a difference now.
The State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, also thanked the people for standing firm and believing the works of God to the people of Ika through Governor Udom Emmanuel.
He urged them to guard jealously their permanent voters cards (PVCs) against anyone deceiving them in the name of empowerment whereas they have nothing to offer than to use it to rig the election.
