Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has flagged off the construction of Okoroete Road in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of the State.
Among the roads flagged-off on Thursday by the Governor when the Divine Mandate campaign team stormed the area, was internal road interventions in the area.
Addressing the rally at the St Silas Primary School, Okoroete, Governor Emmanuel informed the people that the road had been awarded for construction earlier, but the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) moved their equipment to the site.
He said the state government had to play quiet for the NDDC to expose to the people their deceitful nature of operation, as they eventually abandoned the project.
The Governor announced that the state government has mobilised Nigerpet Structures Ltd for the construction, and assured that the project would be ready for commissioning in few months.
Governor Emmanuel also assured the people of his commitment to revamp the health and education sectors of Eastern Obolo towards reducing the mortality rate and aid better living of the people.
He thanked the people for coming out enmass to declare their support, and informed them that his Completion Agenda has provisions for youths empowerment and job creation.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of Divine Mandate Campaign Organisation, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, thanked the people of Eastern Obolo for standing for the truth and what is right.
He said, “We came in 2015 and you gave us your support and today, I’m glad to tell you that we have not disappointed you. There was a time Eastern Obolo had only one road, but today, there is development in the area.”
Nkananga maintained that Governor Emmanuel has given peace which he said, breeds development, and urged the people to continue to stand for peace and embrace development.
Goodwill messages from the Council Chairman, Hon Victoria Tallick, and Chapter Chairman, Victor Gamaliel Oromene, reiterated the readiness of the people to repeat what they did in 2015, saying that Eastern Obolo is a reliable place and totally in support of the PDP, working assiduously to deliver Governor Udom Emmanuel and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The chapter youth leader of Eastern Obolo, Engr. Festus Sunday, commended Governor Emmanuel for eradicating poverty from the area and putting food on the tables of the teeming youths.
He said they are aware of the so-called federal might but not intimidated because “before the federal might, there exists unit might. We will resist them.”
Also speaking were member representing Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Francis Charles Uduyok; member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency, Rt Hon Uduak Odudoh, and PDP candidate for Eket Senatorial District, Dr Mrs Akon Eyakenyi.
