Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has announced his commitment to achieve a level of success that would set a new record of development in Ibeno Local Government Area.
He made the declaration on Wednesday at the Ibeno Council Secretariat during his second term campaign tour to the area.
Addressing the people, Governor Emmanuel noted that Ibeno had been neglected and sidelined by the immediate past administration of Godswill Akpabio and the present APC-led federal government, despite the fact that a greater percent of the resources of this country is generated from the area.
Governor Emmanuel announced that he will rewrite the history of Ibeno Local Government Area and put it on the world map, adding that the next development port of Nigeria will start from the Ibeno shoreline.
He also assured the people that he would do everything humanly possible to see that the Qua Iboe Power Plant (QIPP) project comes to reality, as the project would be re-awarded in March this year.
The Governor expressed sadness that there is not even a refinery or a kiosk to show despite the resources of this country being produced from Ibeno, and used the occasion to make case for the relocation of headquarters of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to Akwa Ibom State, saying it has no business in Lagos but in Akwa Ibom State where the oil is being drilled.
Earlier, while paying homage to the Paramount Ruler of Ibeno, Governor Emmanuel reminded the people how they lamented about Eket-Ibeno road when he was Secretary to the State Government during the administration of Godswill Akpabio, but the government gave deaf eyes to the plights of Ibeno people.
He said the road was included in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) budget but nothing was done about it, maintaining that what the development of Ibeno needs is policy and if federal government can grant the policy, the rest would be history.
Governor Emmanuel also disclosed to the people to move the gas onshore to offshore and produce something out of it, saying “When that is done, development would be looking for Ibeno, not the other way round,” adding that it is not about money but a single announcement from the presidency.
The Paramount Ruler of Ibeno, HRM Owong Effiong Achiangha (JP), commended the Governor for lifting the plight of Ibeno, saying that he has rewritten the history of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs by approving two-year tenure of which he is a beneficiary.
He thanked the Governor for the construction of the Eket-Ibeno road and made the Ibaka Deep Seaport a reality.
In his remarks, the Director General of Divine Mandate, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, assured the people that Ibeno shall be free from the bondage of the APC-led federal government, as is someone to restore the hope of Ibeno, in the person of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He said, “Today, there is a good road from Eket to Ibeno courtesy of Governor Udom Emmanuel. He has brought peace and prosperity in the state. Vote and remember that there was a time you could not sleep with your both eyes closed. But today, all that is history. Vote for Udom Emmanuel.
“A country that is built on injustice will find it difficult to stand. The APC federal government has done enough injustice to Akwa Ibom State, Ibeno in particular.”
Separate goodwill messages from Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ofum Henry; Chapter Chairman, Hon. Emma Ibok; Woman leader, Mrs. Naomi Peters, and youth leader, Victor Edikpo, stated that Ibeno people have reasons to vote and return Governor Emmanuel to power in the forthcoming elections, adding that someone governed the state for eight years but Ibeno was neglected, but Udom Emmanuel, within three and a half years in office, has wiped tears from the eyes of the people.
On his part, Architect Esoetuk Eteh, speaking on behalf of the elders, noted that Akwa Ibom is said to be standing on a tripod of Ikot Ekpene, Uyo and Oron, but with Ibeno as the base. “We will vote for you because of who you are, what you have done and what you are planning to do for us. You are known for industries and Ibeno is a beneficiary of your government.”
They pledged their resolve to continually support the Governor and other PDP candidates as Ibeno has always been PDP since 1999 when democracy came, and that they are not willing to change.
