By Umoh-Obong Kingsley
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has assured the people of Mbo Local Government Area of his commitment to continually develop the area and link it with the Gulf of Guinea.
He stated this on Saturday at the Methodist Primary School, Ewang, venue for his gubernatorial campaign rally to Mbo LGA.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Emmanuel thanked the people for coming out in great numbers in appreciation of the numerous projects his administration has brought to Mbo.
He said his government is the only regime that, when it talks of development, it is a total approach, and called for partnership between Mbo and the state government in order to complete the already commenced projects in the area.
Giving account of his projects in the area, the Governor maintained that he has delivered on his social contract to Mbo people as Mbo, he said, is the highest beneficiary of his government as demonstrated by the various projects he has undertaken such as the Construction of the Tank Farm Road in Ibaka; Re-awarding and construction of the abandoned Etebi-Enwang road, and Construction of 2km Akai Ebughu Village road/tank farm road.
He enumerated other projects to include the Fish Smoking Factory, Ibaka; Electrification project; Electrification project, Uko Itak, Eyulor; Renovation of 8 classroom blocks and Assembly Hall at Community Secondary School, Udesi; Renovation of 4 classroom blocks at Government Primary School, Akai Atti, Udesi, and Renovation of 4 classroom blocks and Office at Government School, Obio Iyata-Eta among several others, as well as appointment of 15 Mbo people into different offices.
Governor Emmanuel further noted that: “This is the only government that remembered Mbo in its first few months of office. The number of Tank Farms in Mbo is not found in any other local government area of the state. We have attracted the downstream sector to Mbo, and we are doing a road that will traverse the new Industrial City and the Deep Seaport. All we are waiting for the project spring up is approval from the federal government.
“This is the first time the Deep Seaport has entered the World Development Map. Mbo needs to partner with the government for the actualization of that dream. The Etebi-Enwang Road which was poorly designed and abandoned, has been redesigned and awarded to another contractor, and would be commissioned before the year runs out. The Ibaka Road was constructed within seven months. We are on a path of execution of all our campaign promises to Mbo people. We are not a government of deceits. We deliver on every promise made.”
The state executive assured the people that the next Economic Horsepower will emanate from Mbo into the Gulf of Guinea, adding that he is working assiduously to secure the shoreline for the youths to carry on their economic activities without harassment or molestation
Earlier in his palace, the Paramount Ruler of Oro Nation, Ahta Oro VII, Ovong Edet O. Isemin, commended the Governor for the construction of the Tank Farm road in Ibaka and the rehabilitation of Enwang-Ibaka road, and described him as a promise keeper.
He presented a paddle, lamb and Bible, among other items to Governor Emmanuel in appreciation of his developmental strides and political inclusion of Mbo in his government.
The event, which took another dimension from the campaign rallies to other local governments, witnessed the people of Mbo stormed the venue enmass to show support and solidarity to Governor Udom Emmanuel and his second term ambition.
The Director General of Divine Mandate and former military governor of the state, Air Commodore (rtd), Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, in his remarks, informed the people of Mbo that Governor Emmanuel has laid the foundation and it’s time to build on it, saying that if he is not part of the building, they may not know what the foundation was made of.
He said, “You cannot give what you don’t have. Udom Emmanuel is a product of peace that’s why there is peace in the state. There was a time Mbo Local Government was highly neglected and marginalized but today, Governor Emmanuel has appointed one of you as the Secretary to the State Government and this, we must support and vote him to continue in office come March 2nd.”
In his goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of the LGA, Rt. Hon. Asukwo Eyo, thanked the governor for rescuing Mbo, saying: “The first administration came and Mbo was sidelined and neglected. The same fate repeated itself in the immediate past administration and we still supported for eight years. Mbo has befitted in the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, therefore we cannot be ungrateful for the appointments, tarred roads, revamped hospitals, as well as the various youths and women empowerment programmes. We will give you our 100% vote in the March 2nd Gubernatorial election.”
Speaker after speaker, the people assured the Governor that Amazing Grace will see him through come 2nd March for taking the initiative and accepting the responsibility of redeeming Akwa Ibom State.
They said the forthcoming election is a fight between God and the Federal Might, assuring that the same way God disappointed the Federal Might of Pharaoh in the Bible, the Federal Might of Nigeria will be disappointed.
According to them, the 19 projects the Governor has done and 15 appointments of Mbo people into government, cover all the promises he made to them, hence their resolve to deliver him and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
