Governor Emmanuel Enthrones New Oku Ibom Ibibio
…SUES FOR UNITY AMONGST IBIBIO NATION
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has installed as new Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence Nteyin Solomon Daniel Etuk (JP), who doubles as President General of the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers a.k.a Ifim Ibom Ibibio.
The coronation ceremony was performed on the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, on Monday at Asan Ibibio, Ikot Oku Ikono, Uyo.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Emmanuel announced that by the coronation and every pronouncement made, the new Oku Ibom Ibibio is the leader of the entire Ibibio Nation, adding that the entire traditional stool of Ibibio Nation is bestowed on him, and that he would administer justice, fairness and equity to all and sundries.
He noted that the occasion marked a huge significant day for Ibibio Nation in particular and Akwa Ibom State at large, and charged the traditional stool to imbibe the spirit of unity, saying “It was the Ibibio State Union that kept us at that prominent place in this country. We were among the first to grant scholarships, train and develop our people, and not wait for the center who could wake up one morning to block our accounts despite the supports of our people.
“I want us to reenact that spirit of unity, oneness and the spirit that we need to break those walls among those sowing seeds of disunity among us.”
The State Governor called on all citizens of the state to respect traditional institutions and traditional fathers, explaining that the Oku Ibom Ibibio represents the supreme council of the entire Ibibio traditional rulers, hence there is the need to ensure that “there is unity of purpose and agreement in whatsoever we have to do as a people. We must rally round and have a stool of a concord of peace around our people, and accord that stool the real traditional dignity that the it entails.
He pledged to support not only the traditional tool but all traditional fathers that will collaborate to retain and maintain peace and unity in the state, as there cannot be development without peace and people cannot carry on their businesses.
The Governor joined and prayed for God’s protection on the Oku Ibom Ibibio, and peace in the state during the forthcoming 2019 general elections, when God will prove to man that man is man, and God is God and only God.
He used the opportunity to announce and invite all and sundry to the solemn assembly to rededicate the state back to God on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Ibom Hall Grounds, IBB Avenue, Uyo.
Earlier in his address, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, expressed appreciation particularly to the Governor for inviting him to witness the rich culture of Ibibio people, which he said is similar to the culture of the people of Oduduwa Kingdom.
He also thanked the Ibibio people and other ethnic groups in the state for supporting Mr. Udom Emmanuel, describing him as very humble, ever vibrant, forward looking and progressing Governor.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Onna, HRM Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, stated that the coronation is to the fulfilment and manifestation of completeness and willingness of the Ibibio pledge.
The coronation ceremony was also graced by Obong of Calabar, Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, all paramount rulers in the state, State Executive Council members, top government functionaries, sociocultural and sociopolitical groups in the state.
