Akwa Ibom Women Protest Threat To Democracy By Nigeria Police
Women across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State, led by the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Edet, on Wednesday stormed the streets of Uyo in a peaceful protest against breakdown of law and order which serves as a threat to democracy and peace in the state
The women who clad in black attire, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “MUSA MUST GO”; “WE NEED PEACE IN AKS”; “LUKE IS THE AUTHENTIC SPEAKER”, etc are protesting police partisanship in the state, calling for immediate redeployment of the newly posted State Police Commissioner, Musa Kimo.
This is coming on the heels of the involvement of men of the Nigeria Police Force in a plenary conducted in the state House of Assembly by five suspended members with the assistance of Police personnel on Tuesday.
