Chairman of the Committee, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, in his response, thanked the Governor for his capacity to select the best caliber of people in the committee, and the expedients of the moment.

He assured that the importance and high-stake nature of the forthcoming elections in the country and particularly in Akwa Ibom State, is not lost, adding that the election will be a referendum for true democracy in the country.

Engr. Ekpotu bemoaned that the forces seeking to pull down democracy of the country are the forces binding it, “…but by the decision of our party and the choice of Akwa Ibom people that we profess to serve, Udom Emmanuel emerged as the Governor so that Akwa Ibom State would succeed.

“I trusted that his intellect, hard work and commitment to principles would continue to contribute to the good of this state….and that is why the second campaign of Udom Emmanuel features and enlarged support base of men and women, boys and girls, young and old, the poor and the rich in status all united by one vision, inspired by common values and sustained by shared heritage.”

He further stated that by mere guided leadership utterances and body language, Governor Emmanuel has done the bridge, adding that the Governor would have been despised those in the dark sides of the push and pull, “yet he remains focused and pushed only by so much more that what divides the us. He may have been disappointed by what we interpret our politics to be, but he is optimistic, positive and confident of the future.

“I wish Akwa Ibom would get to see what I see in Governor Udom Emmanuel – a God-fearing, big-hearted, down to earth leader who is confident to the challenge that this moment demands.”

Engr. Ekpotu maintained that for this significant milestone to prevail, Akwa Ibom people must continue to reject the part of divisiveness engineered by the masquerades, and must, through the coming elections, take steps that uphold the overall interest of the state and the nation at large, by not giving in to their physical and psychological chance, but stand united and say no to evil plots, intimidation and deceit.

He assured that though the tasks ahead for members of the committee may be daunting but by collective works, victory is sure, and appealed to all Akwa Ibom sons and daughters to join hands to work together for a better future.

Also speaking, State Chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo, appealed to members of the committee to integrate and harmonise the party, and not to look at people’s faces but focus on what the party believes in which is God.

“When it comes to party, we believe in PDP; and when comes to PDP, the symbol is the umbrella. We should look at the umbrella and not the candidate for now, because when you vote for the umbrella, the candidate will be inaugurated.”

Also present at the event were Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo; Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem; Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, Commissioners and members of the State Executive Council among others.
