2019: Ibibio Apex Youth Group Insists On Governor Emmanuel
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the largest youth sociocultural organization in Akwa Ibom State, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, has re-affirmed its support of Governor Udom Emmanuel to retain the mantle of governorship of the state.
Governor Emmanuel obtained the re-affirmation when the newly installed International President of the organization, Akparawa Patrick Udofia, led members of the organization on a solidarity visit to him at the Hilltop Mansion, Government House, Uyo.
The Governor appreciated Mboho for the visit, saying that it was an indication that he could count on their support at all times and extended gratitude to elders of the three Senatorial Districts of Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket, who have risen to give backing to his second term aspiration.
He charged the organization to sustain the unity currently enjoyed within its fold, noting that such attribute can only be maintained through good leadership and followership.
“I want to pray that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio should wax stronger to remain an apex sociocultural organization”.
Emmanuel commended the leadership of MMI for the capacity to manage 66 chapters of the organization across the globe, calling on it to continue projecting the Akwa Ibom values within and outside the country.
He indicated that his administration is committed to the fight for the destiny of Akwa Ibom people and added, “we stand to say that the time for over-bloated contracts, is over, that there must be due process, we stand to say that once you are at the helm of affairs, you are for everybody”.
The Governor stated that the peaceful atmosphere in Akwa Ibom was an indication of divine backing of the state leadership, maintaining that his government is poised on ensuring a strong economy for the state.
“I offer myself to champion the fight for the souls of destiny of Akwa Ibom people”.
“The people may not understand whatever we are doing now but hereinafter, Akwa Ibom would get to understand and appreciate because if we don’t lay proper economic foundation, forget it, democracy will not work”, Emmanuel stated.
While noting that, “there must be what we call paradigm shift and God must raise people to stand in the gap and rescue this state”, the Governor urged everyone to show respect for constituted authorities and frowned at hypocritical worship of individuals.
He lauded a former Governor of the state, Obong Victor Attah, for demonstrating the need to put a traditional structure in place which led to the emergence of the Oku Ibom Ibibio, commending other eminent elders for peacefully working to support the step towards boosting traditional leadership.
The Governor added, “I did not facilitate the installation of the Oku Ibom Ibibio to receive political endorsement, not at all but we are trying to put up traditional structures that people can respect. There must be an established kingship and followership in the traditional institution to attract prosperity”.
Earlier, the International President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Akparawa Udofia, said that the organization was on a solidarity visit to the Governor to strengthen him. assuring of full backing
to enable him achieve his second term aspiration.
Akparawa Udofia acknowledged that Governor Emmanuel’s administration has performed creditably in road construction, hospitals and schools renovation, employment opportunities, establishment of new as well as revamping of moribund industries, stressing that it was only reasonable to ensure that he continued in office for a second term to consolidate on the ongoing developments in the state.
While commending Governor Emmanuel administration on the relative peace enjoyed in the state, the MMI President said that “the best way to maintain this peace, is to make sure we keep equity and fair play”.
The organiztion’s helmsman hinted that the MMI has 66 Chapters with over 30, 000 members within and outside the country, stressing that the organization’s resolve to support equity in the zoning of governorship position, was beyond political party affiliations of members.
He maintained that Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts had enjoyed the support of the MMI in the governorship position for two terms of eight years for each individuals, pointing out that it was justifiable to lend the same support to Eket Senatorial district to complete another term of four years.
Udofia disclosed that it was obligated on every member of the MMI residing outside the state to make preparations to return to their different wards and units with their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), in readiness to perform their civic responsibilities during the elections.
He remarked that the MMI has also related positively with other socio-cultural organizations in the state, with assurances of strong support to the continuation of the Emmanuel-led administration till 2023.
The visit was witnessed by the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, former Military Governor of the State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, the Commissioner of Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen, the Commissioner of Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon and the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Prince Enobong Uwah.
