Various contractors handling projects for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have raised the alarm over the blunt refusal by Managing Director of the agency, Mr Nsima Ekere, to pay them.
Some have described the development as a case of utter insensitivity and wickedness from the man who is desperately plotting to become Governor, lambasted Nsima for failing to deliver on the contract agreement.
One of the contractors from Eket who pleaded anonymity said things were becoming hard and unbearable due to huge contract debts being owed him and some others by the Governorship hopeful.
He wondered why Mr Ekere would operate with such impunity and maltreating the contractors who laboured day and night to deliver.
“I undertook a school renovation project and up until now, not even a dime of the money has been paid. I have made complaints to the office in Port Harcourt and no one is responding positively.
“Why is Nsima so wicked to want to resign and contest for election with our money? My colleague borrowed N50 million to do a road project for the agency and has gone into exile because of the debt.
“This is exactly how he will embezzle workers money if he ever becomes Governor. A leader should not be this insensitive and callous. If Governor Udom Emmanuel was to behave like this, it means everyone would die of hunger,” he lamented.
