The spirit of hope and progress was again rekindled in the hearts of Akwa Ibom people, Sunday as serving and former leaders in Nigeria trooped in to show solidarity and support to the Government of Mr Udom Emmanuel.
The occasion held at the Uyo Township Stadium, was the 31st anniversary thanksgiving celebration of the state, and attracted a large crowd of supporters, including women, youth, the political class, religious and political leaders, among others.
Addressing the large congregation, the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, congratulated the Governor and the people of the state on the anniversary, and described the large fellowship as a strong indication of the strong support base of the Governor.
“I can say that the people of the state have a leader they believe, and they have shown that they can stand against oppression.”
You can bring people here, but you cannot pay for this excitement. But they are happy because of what the governor has done for them.”
Saraki described Governor Emmanuel as man with great pedigree, and urged the people of the state to continue following him as a leader who knows and is showing the way.
Also speaking, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the developments in the state and the support gathered from the people, makes Governor Udom Emmanuel sure of victory in the next General Elections.
While acknowledging that God alone gives power, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives remained upbeat that his Akwa Ibom State counterpart was making the PDP proud by his sterling performance.
He cited the case of Osun State, where the PDP dusted the APC, and maintained that it was a referendum by the people that PDP is the best for the country.
In their collective goodwill message, former governors of the State, led by the pioneer Military Governor, Senator Jonathan Ogbeha maintained that the state has witnessed a lot of transformation under Mr Emmanuel.
The former governors, including Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Col. Yakubu Bako and Capt. John Ebiye all preached peace and unity in the state and affirmed their support for the re-election of Mr Emmanuel as Governor come February next year.
“We will be here to celebrate the swearing in of Governor Emmanuel for a second term in May 2019,” they added.
The Governor, Udom Emmanuel was pleasantly happy with populace for the massive show of support to his administration.
He said his administration has brought about industrial revolution in the state, security of live and property and improved healthcare and educational facilities and assured the people that with their support, the state will not be dragged back to the unfortunate previous era.
