How APC Stalwarts Shunned Akpabio’s Airport Jamboree

There is a broad chorus of disapproval and complete despondency among different strata of members of the APC over the defection of the former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite all the fanfare.
The All Progressives Party (APC) stalwarts in Akwa Ibom State including the two party chairmen, Dr Udoma Bob Ekarika and Mr Ini Okpido; Obong Umana Okon Umana; Nsima Ekere; Don Etiebiet, Chief Sunny Jackson Udoh; were conspicuosly missing at the Akwa Ibom State Airport on Tuesday to receive the defector on his arrival after failing in his alleged bid to use men of the Department of State Service (DSS) in a plot to overthrow the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in Abuja.
They shunned the former governor, and vowed to resist all his antics to change the structure of the party and come out with another governorship candidate that he can control.
They are however expected at Ikot Ekpene today where they will receive the national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Recently, stakeholders of the party had written its National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, stating why Sen Godswill Akpabio, should not be welcomed to APC.
They stated that Senator Akpabio does not deserve a welcome to APC because his despicable political idiosyncrasies dealign to the values the APC holds.
The stakeholders under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Progressives Watch (AKIPW), in a letter captioned “Impending Dangers of Senator Akpabio’s Defection To The APC”, alleged that Akpabio is on a mission to destroy the APC in Akwa Ibom state.
“Akpabio has many nocuous reasons for joining the APC and none includes helping the party win the next election.
“Based on Akpabio’s antecedence and his dislike for our party, we strongly feel that the former senate minority leader is joining the APC for many nocuous reasons. Akpabio is seeking an escape from prosecution for the crimes – particularly, financial, and human rights abuses – his regime committed.
“He wants to give the party a bad image in the eyes of members of the public who looked up to the APC as the only institution that would evict Akpabio from position of authority and bring justice to those whose rights were unjustly stymied by the preponderance of his absolute powers.
“Akpabio wants to use our party to advance his selfish and insatiable quest for power. He is on a mission to destroy APC.
It is on record that Akpabio had a wild intolerance for members of the APC in the state during his reign as governor, using his men to mastermind the awful murder of 11 supporters of the defunct ACN in 2011 who were on a campaign visit to Ikot Ekpene.
“Leaders of the party are hereby warned not to forget in a hurry the humiliation Akpabio meted on President Muhammadu Buhari by ordering the closure of the Ibom Airport so that Buhari and his entourage will not land at the state airport for his presidential electioneering campaigns.”
