Rain Sacks Nsit Atai Vice Chairman From Office After Months Of Abandoned Work
…As Emem Ibanga Allegedly Embezzles N25m Council Renovation Money
It has been revealed that the Vice Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Council, Mr Idorenyin Inyang, can no longer enter or work in his office at the local government headquarters, Odot, following the flood that has submerged the entire office including furnitures.
This reporter who was at the council secretariat, Odot recently to see things the way it is, was astonished by the volume of water found at the Vice Chairman’s office which has completely destroyed all furnitures and other valuables in the office.
According to council workers who conducted this reporter around the council secretariat and also open the Vice Chairman’s office, said that since February 2018 the telecommunication pole felt on the council roof affecting the Vice Chairman’s office, nothing tangible has been done to restore the office by fixing the roof.
They lamented the poor handlings and running of the council by Hon. Emem Ibanga-led administration whom they described as being very wicked, insensitive, and vindictive to workers on any matter.
The council workers who pleaded anonymity for fear of being incarcerated by the council chairman maintained that soon after the incident occurred, the council chairman, Hon. Ibanga indicate her readiness to fix the broken roof, but little did they know that the council boss was seeking ways of squandering council funds.
They said that since March this year, the council chairman has been siphoning council money in the name of council renovation with the procurement of 2 bundle of long-span roofing sheets and replace very few while other areas are largely abandoned. They accused the chairman of not having human feelings to have treated his Vice with dignity by carrying out the repair work on time to avoid this embarrassment.
They further explained that the chairman’s corrupt agenda in handling the project led to the rain waters from the leaking roof submerging the office and destroyed all furnitures and other equipments. Adding that the chairman is not interested in the welfare of the people or what affects them, but the chairman is interested in making money from the council even to the detriment of those working with her.
They alleged that last month, the council financial report has it that the chairman, Hon. Ibanga has expended a total of ten million naira (N10,000,000) on the council renovation project with nothing on ground to show. They said that for five months now, the Vice chairman has not enter his office due to the abandonment of the repair works which has allows rain waters to further wreck havoc in the office.
They further alleged that Hon. Ibanga again has reported to have expended the sum of fifteen million naira (N15, 000,000) on grading of rural roads in Nsit Atai, a situation where no road has been graded from January to July 2018 apart from the ceremonial flag-off of the project.
One of the directors in the council who pleaded not to be name said she was surprise to see that fifteen million naira has already been siphoned from the council treasury in the name of road grading, adding that what is currently going on in Nsit Atai local government is a worrisome situation that need to be address immediately.
She said that the council chairman does her appropriations with the council head of service and director of finance alone shutting out other eligible members of the appropriation personnel. The director added that it’s very disturbing to know that a council chairman will see the situation in her deputy’s office flooded with waters, but instead of using the money to address the situation, she diverts the renovation money for her personal use.
Meanwhile the council secretariat has been completely deserted by workers who no longer go to work because of the mismanagement of the council by Hon. Ibanga led administration. As at 11am last Tuesday, less than six staff were found lousing about at the council secretariat.
The secretariat was very dirty and overgrown with weeds. It was an eye-saw, a situation where the entire council premises was overtaken by wile-grasses and animals following months of mismanagement of the council.
Every attempt to speak with the council chairman, Hon. Emem Ibanga and the Vice chairman, Mr Idorenyin Inyang proved abortive as they did not pick their calls neither respond to the SMS that sent to their phones.
