FG Not Reconstructing Calabar-Itu Road –Ita Enang
The Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate) to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Ita Enang has disclosed that the federal government is not reconstructing the entire Calabar-Itu road, but only patching some failed portions.
Featuring on a radio interview on Inspiration FM, the President’s aide stated the contract award does not cover the entire stretch of Calabar-Itu road, even though the road will be dualised.
“What really concerns federal government and with Julius Berger and Ministry of Works… because the contract award does not cover the entire stretch of Calabar-Itu road. It is not as if it will be repaired, but it will be dualized.
“The road was constructed in 1975. Where it needs patching, it will be patched.”
Ita Enang said the President has mandated him to go around the road and show Julius Berger where there are rough portions for them to intervene.
It will be recalled that last week the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Senator Ita Enang, had while addressing newsmen when he undertook a visit to the Calabar-Itu road, assured that the project will be completed in no distant time.
He announced that the presidency has released additional 11 billion Naira for outstanding sections of the road yet to be awarded in addition to the first tranche of 5 billion Naira paid to Julius Berger.
The said road dualization was promised by the APC led Federal government since 2015 when the President came on board, but three years after, nothing had been done on the site. Road users from that axis are worried over the state of the road, as it is not yet clear whether whether the Calabar-Itu road will actually be dualized or whether the road contract was for patching of failed portions of the road.
Meanwhile, a newspaper Publisher and Editor-in-chief of the INK Newspaper, Mr. Nsibiet John has faulted Ita Enang over his recent claim about the dualization of the road.
Mr. John who undertook an inspection visit to verify the veracity of Ita Enang’s claim had advised Enang against peddling lies to the public.
The renowned newspaper publisher and Journalist wrote on his Facebook page Nsibiet John wrote: “Dear good people of Akwa Ibom State, please kindly ignore the false, fake and shitty story concocted by some persons that Julius Berger have began work along Calabar ITU road.
I traverse that road this morning from Uyo to” Calabar and nothing, I say nothing, I mean nothing, just nothing of such is going on there.
“It is very pathetic and highly irredeemable that our brother Senator Ita Enang will stoop so low to deceive us that work has begun there”.
“One would not know if this antic by our brother is to safe the face of the Federal Government and present her as having the interest of Akwa Ibom people at heart or if it is a calculated attempt to hoodwink Akwa Ibomites into believing that the APC loves Akwa Ibom State. Whatever is the motive behind such wicked lie, only time, I mean time. Just time alone will tell.
My advice is that Senator Ita Enang should spare us the brushes of unholy expressions. “
