As the nation continues it’s descent into the quagmire caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), human capital development remains an integral if not important means of arresting the slide.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has been at the forefront of encouraging and developing the next generation of leaders in areas of empowerment and self sustenance. Sadly, the same can’t be said of the opposition APC in the state.
Recently, another youth in the state was empowered and encouraged by the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, with the provision of state of the art photography equipment to aid his dreams. This is one of very many cases of human development by the PDP in the state.
The Umbrella Business Quest, also sponsored by the PDP through its Publicity Secretary, Comr. Ini Ememobong, has set out to encourage youths with starter packs and financial incentives aimed at accelerating their independence thereby creating job opportunities by extension.
Sadly, the same can’t be said of the APC who’s only interest is sponsoring media attacks on the Governor and demarketing the state on every available tabloid.
I’m inclined to ask, can a party whose officials syphoned the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Christmas largesse for Akwa Ibom youths, a party that has shown such disdain for youths. be trusted with running the affairs of Akwa Ibom state?
A party who only sees youths as good enough for political rallies, hatchet jobs and agents of lies, mischief, propaganda cannot and should not be entrusted with managing the affairs of this state. If they can’t impact the lives of youths in the state now, there’s certainly no guarantee that will happen if they manage to gain power in 2019.
I thought the management of NDDC would set up a committee for proper implementation of such funds, better still a committee to enquire about the money. But it is obvious he is ready to sacrifice the interest of Akwa Ibom youths to please his political allies.
Governor Udom Emmanuel has always been at the forefront of youth empowerment in the state as seen in his appointment of youths into sensitive positions in the state and other positions of leadership. He clearly has the interest of youths at heart and as such, deserves our support.
Our eyes are open now and we certainly won’t make the mistake made by 15 million Nigerians in 2015 which the whole country is still reeling from effects.
I challenge anybody to show proof of any youth empowered or developed by any member of the opposition party in the state. I stand to be corrected.
Akwa Ibom Youths, the choice is ours to make. 2019 is upon us. One wrong turn and we could find ourselves starting from the bottom again and we really can’t afford that right now.
The future is ours to take!!!
