Gov Emmanuel Places Priority On Youth Devt, Job Creation
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, places priority on youth development and empowerment hence the massive programmes and job creation opportunities opened up for the betterment of their lots in the state.
To this end, the Governor, in addition to creating positive youth engagement programmes in different sectors as well as in the numerous industries attracted to the state, has also ensured the appointment of youths into covetous government offices where decisions and issues bordering the youths are protected.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh, stated this in Uyo while performing a kick-off for the final of Hon. Charles Udoh SUG Inter-departmental Championship Cup Competition played on Friday at the Mini Stadium of the University of Uyo, Town Campus.
Charles Udoh commended the Student Union Government of the University of Uyo for the successful hosting of the football tournament instituted in his honour, and urged the two contending teams to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the match.
Reliving his past as a one-time footballer of the University football team, Udoh said he played in the match which opened the Mini Stadium Football Pitch, and expressed with pride that his team then defeated the visiting University of Calabar Football Team which absconded the field in the second half of that match, urging the two present teams to be brave to complete the match.
He appreciated the Student Union Government of the institution for presenting him with an art Portrait which he said will remain treasurable for posterity and pledged his continuous support towards the development of the University and in particular the Football Team of the school.
At the end of the tournament, the Department of Physical and Health Education went home with the Gold Trophy after a one goal victory against the Department of Civil Engineering.
Highpoints of the event thrilled by the Kaygite Club and a DJ were presentation of Medals and Trophy to the winning teams with a cash prize of N100,000, N80,000 and N50,000 to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the match respectively.
The final match was watched by Officials of University of Uyo, including the Director of Sports as well as Directors in the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Director, Technical Services and Dean College of Directors, Mr. Inyang Jameson, Information, Comfort Umanah, Strategy, Mrs. Grace Akpan, Finance, Mr. Ifiok Ibanga and Administration, Elder Tiuba Nduonofit, among other staff of the Ministry.
