World Environment Day: Akwa Ibom Gov Commends Road Cleaners

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has described the various groups of sweepers, mowers, and cleaners of roads, gutters, and grasses in the State as exceptional groups that are so endearing to him, and assured that he will never allow them to be taken for granted in the State.
Governor Udom made the remark on Monday during the Appreciation and Endorsement Rally of Governor Udom Emmanuel for Second Term in Office tagged “Awawa Asana 2019”, organized by the Clean Green Vanguard in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources at Ibom Plaza, Uyo in commemoration of the 2018 World Environment Day.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, the Governor noted that the State Waste Management Resource Persons stand for peace, fresh breath, good health, growth and development of our State in view of their significant role of cleaning and keeping the State neat and green for our healthy living.
He assured the cleaners of his special interest in their welfare, stressing that their due respect shall be ensured and protected in the State as there would not be a clean, healthy, and beautiful Akwa Ibom State if not for their exceptional efforts and hard work in their duties.
Governor Udom commended the leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources for a job well done in the State by ensuring that our environment is kept clean, healthy and fresh all the time.
He urged the people in the State to continue to embrace and practise healthy cleanliness of our environment for a disease-free and healthy Akwa Ibom State.
The Governor appreciated the Awawa Asana Group for endorsing him for a second term in office, and declared his acceptance of their endorsement maintaining that his drive is to see the State stand out in employment generation, empowerment, growth and development of its people.
In her Speech, the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Glory Edet, expressed her gratitude for the honour done the Governor by the Clean Green Vanguard led by the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources.
Mrs. Udom enjoined the people to have their voter’s cards ready as it is the only sure way of actualizing their heart desire of making Governor Udom to stay in power and carry on with his laudable works till 2023.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Iniobong Essien, disclosed that the essence of the day’s gathering was for the cleaners and sweepers in the State to thank the Governor for taking good care of them by prompt payment of their stipends, and endorse him with the assurance of their votes for his second term.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Effiong Bob, reiterated that the Awawa Asana Vanguard is out to let the world know that Governor Udom Emmanuel has performed creditably for the State, and therefore deserves the support and the votes of the people for his second term for the continuation of his good works.
The Appreciation and Endorsement Rally tagged: “Awawa Asana Udom 2019” was witnessed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the State Head of Service, Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan, Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr. Akan Okon, Senator Ibok Essien, among other government and political dignitaries within and outside the State, and the general public.
