The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, has described the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, as a man with foresight who is doing all in his effort to position Akwa Ibom State for the future.
The SSG noted that Gov. Udom has foreseen the looming economy disaster in the country, and is working proactively to safe Akwa Ibomites from the doom that is lying 12 years ahead, and called on all Akwa Ibom people to support the governor.
He further urged citizens to take advantage of the opportunities provided by Governor within the period of three years in office via his 5-point agenda of Job Creation, Wealth Creation, Poverty Alleviation, Infrastructure Consolidation, and an all-inclusive socioeconomic platform, which has provided for all a sense of belonging.
In an exclusive interview in his office with the Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management (Dakkada), Dr Ekuwem noted that the Stone Age did not end for lack of stones, but because Engineers and Scientists discovered better sources of engineering materials, likewise petroleum being a major source of revenue for Nigeria, will soon come to an end.
He revealed that Engineers and Scientists are developing electric cars – a plug-in electric automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using energy typically stored in rechargeable batteries, stressing that when that is launched, the demand for crude oil will drop drastically and there will be gnashing of teeth in the country.
“All of the programmes of the Gov Emmanuel are to make the State less dependent on oil so that when oil would have eventually come to an end, the economy of the state would have been diversified. As a Prophet of Boom, not a prophet of doom, he has foreseen the looming crunch in the country and is working proactively to safe Akwa Ibomites from the looming disaster that is lying 12 years ahead.
“Governor Emmanuel is taking Akwa Ibom from dependency on petroleum products to diversification of the economy of the state, multiple sources of income where the average Akwa Ibomite is equipped with the requisite knowledge, capacity to excel in any part of the world. He is creating a platform for global competitiveness for every Akwa Ibomite through is free, compulsory and qualitative education policy in the state.
“May it not befall this generation that this kind of individual traverses Akwa Ibom land with the kind of light he is shining, and this polity did not comprehend it. Because there will be gnashing of teeth before 2030.”
The SSG further disclosed that the State Governor is transforming Akwa Ibom from quasi subsistence, low level economy activity, and civil service century to a private sector-driven, very strong, viable, and productive state to becoming a Dubai and Singapore of Africa, adding that with the current trend of vision and tempo of development in Akwa Ibom, before 2030, the state would be the most developed state in this country.
According to him, the Ibom Power, road networks, infrastructural development, industrialisation, prompt and regular payment of salaries, payment of WAEC fees for school children, free medical care for children between 0-5 years of age and the aged, and lots of projects thriving in the state are clear indications that this is a government of the moment.
A Land of Promise, as the state is nicknamed, he said, means passing through deprivations, needs and anxieties. “So the Governor is changing the economy fortune of Akwa Ibomites. He is giving us an increase in vision where everyone looks up to a better future. In Japan, it is an offence to say ‘this is the best’. It is a sign of mediocrity. The best is always yet to come. So he is taking us to a land of promise, land of fulfillment and diversifying the economy in preparation for the 2030 petroleum doom that is coming. That doom will not take place in Akwa Ibom state because we must have diversified our economy.”
Dr Ekuwem said the Ibom Deep Seaport project will be the best seaport in the country because it is in the Gulf of Guinea, and the Americans are interested in it. South-East, South-South, North-East, North Central and nearby countries are also interested in the Seaport which will soon be ready.
