Uyo Senatorial Dist. Women Endorse Gov Emmanuel For 2nd Term

Akwa Ibom women under the auspices of Uyo Senatorial District Women’s Forum (USDWF), on Tuesday, gathered at the Ibom Hall Grounds, Uyo to celebrate their day with the theme: “Positioning Women for Greatness in the 21st Century,” and openly declared their support for the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term in office come 2019.
While addressing the mammoth crowd, the Coordinator of USDWF, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon, said the women came together under one umbrella to declare their unalloyed support and as well endorse the Governor for a second term having done so well in the first three years in office.
Dr. Ebong who noted that Uyo Senatorial District Women are taking their rightful position in the comity of women, said the group is out to promote peace, good governance and due process administration in the various local government areas within the Senatorial District.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman on the occasion, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, thanked Uyo Senatorial District Women for the support for the Governor and wife, pointing out that the District had already taken a stand to support the Governor in his second term bid.
Presenting a keynote address, Professor Enoidem Usoro of the University of Uyo, who spoke on the theme of the occasion “Positioning Women for Greatness in the 21st Century”, pointed out that for women were created to be help meet, and for them to excel for greatness, they must eschew every divisive tendencies among them and rise above the ordinary.
In her remarks at the event, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel who had earlier commissioned an upgraded Library and Resource Centre donated by Uyo Senatorial District women to Divine Children’s Home, Atan Offot, Uyo, thanked the coordinator of event and the committee members for their ingenuity in organising the day.
The First Lady also commended the women for having thought it wise to establish a Food Processing Factory in the zone, positing that it will go a long way in changing the economic status of women in the zone.
She added that event such as this, helps women to identify their challenges and empower themselves for greatness.
One of the beneficiaries of the inaugurated resource centre with computer sets, Miss Bright Emmanuel Bassey, a final year Law student of the University of Uyo, thanked the Governor’s wife for giving them hope of belonging in the society.
She also commended Gov Emmanuel for his qualitative, free and compulsory education policy, and creating conducive environment for pupils and students of the state to compete with their contemporaries, and promised to be good ambassadors.
Highpoint of the occasion included empowerment packages for the women such as donations of deep freezers, sewing machines and cash sum of money, match pass by women from the nine local government areas making up Uyo Senatorial District and political groups adorned in their colourful attires.
The epoch making event had in attendance eminent personalities from the zone such as Senators Bassey Albert, Effiong Bob and Anietie Okon, serving National and State Assembly members, Hon. Commissioners from the zone, and other dignitaries across the Senatorial District.
