Akwa Ibom High Court Gets Two New Judges
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has administered oath of office to two new High Court Judges. They are Justice Bassey Bassey Nkanang and Justice Uwem Peter Ibritam.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Uyo, Governor Udom Emmanuel acknowledged the existing harmonious relationship between the Judiciary and other Arms of government and commended the state Chief Judge, Justice Godwin Abraham for the innovations witnessed in the state Judiciary since his assumption of office.
He congratulated the newly sworn in Judges on their elevation and expressed delight at the number of Legal Luminaries in the state describing their promotion as a function of a sound living mind.
He said, “so many people applied and two of you came out successful so I want to say that your promotion is just a function of a sound living mind”.
He noted that the state parades the best of the Attorneys in the country and called on the newly sworn in Judges to count themselves as being blessed to join the league of best hands in the legal profession.
Governor Emmanuel called on the Legislature to partner with other institutions of government and evolve stiffer penalities that would facilitate the eradication of all forms of criminality in the state.
In their interaction with Government House Correspondents shortly after the inauguration, Justice Bassey Nkanang who expressed appreciation to God for using Governor Emmanuel and the state Chief Judge Justice Abraham to elevate him to the new office, said he would bring to bear much integrity in the Judicial system for the overall benefit of the common man.
Similarly, Justice Uwem Ibritam promised to uphold the Judicial tenet in the discharge of her responsibilities saying she would dispense Justice to all manner of people without fear or favour even as she would be guided by the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon Onofiok Luke, State Chief Judge His Lordship Justice Godwin Abraham, Retired Judges and spouses of the newly sworn in Judges graced the occasion.
