2019: 2nd Term For Gov Emmanuel Not Negotiable –Okobo Council Boss

The Executive Chairman, Okobo Local Government Council, Hon Ubuo Effiong Ubuo, is optimistic that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, will clinch his second term victory given his gargantuan achievements in less than three years in office.
According to the Council boss, “re-electing Governor Emmanuel in 2019 would complete the tradition in the State where every Senatorial District produces governor for two terms of eight years each”.
Hon Ubuo who was speaking with newsmen on Friday in Uyo, the State capital, hinted that the Udom Emmanuel-led administration has greatly improved on the performance of his predecessors, notably the former governors; Obong Victor Attah and Chief Godswill Akpabio from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, referring to Attah as “the architect of modern Akwa Ibom” and Akpabio, “an extraordinary uncommon transformer”.
Ubuo, a former Transition Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, further said that Governor Emmanuel has delivered democracy dividends to the joy of all Akwa Ibomites, insisting that “his superior performance will campaign for his re-election having delivered his five-point agenda of job creation, poverty alleviation, wealth creation, economic and political inclusion, infrastructural consolidation and expansion”.
“The captain of team Akwa Ibom, I am referring to His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has never neglected any sector; rather, he gives serious attention to all sectors”.
The Okobo Council boss pointed out that Mr. Emmanuel has done creditably in agriculture, education, health services, empowerment projects to youth, women and elders, infrastructure provisions, transportation, road construction and maintenance, reactivation of ailing industries and bringing new ones like pencil, toothpick, Metering factory, syringe and needle company, among others, emphasizing that Akwa Ibom people who are direct beneficiaries of these projects and programmes were waiting for the forthcoming governorship election to re-elect Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Fielding questions on the imperative of second term bid of the incumbent governor, Ubuo stressed, it was mandatory and non-negotiatiable for Mr Udom Emmanuel from Eket Senatorial District to remain at the Hilltop Mansion till 2023.
Hear him: “The tradition of second term started when Uyo Senatorial District produced Arch (Obong) Victor Attah as governor for eight years between 1999 and 2007. This was followed when Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District gave us Chief (Dr) Godswill Akpabio as governor also for eight years between 2007 and 2015. It was the same tradition that was followed when Eket Senatorial District produced Mr Udom Emmanuel as governor in 2015.
“You will agree with me that Akwa Ibom people have deep respect for traditions. So, they know already that their brother and governor from Eket Senatorial District, Mr Udom Emmanuel will remain Governor of the State till 2023, so that he can handover to Uyo Senatorial District”.
Continuing, he observed: “It would be an act of finagle and cheat to even contemplate a fresh person from Eket Senatorial District, because that would mean cheating our Uyo brothers because they would need to wait till 2027 to taste the seat of Governor. Even our brothers in Ikot Ekpene would also suffer the same cheat. We cannot allow that to happen.
“So, as Chairman in my Local Government with other stakeholders in Okobo including the Deputy Speaker; Hon (Princess) Felicia Bassey and others, we have since launched door to door sensitization campaign for the Governor’s second term. I am aware that my brothers and sisters in other local government areas are also working, because all hands have to work for the realisation of a tradition; the second term tradition that was set since 1999”, Ubuo stated.
