A multinational mobile telecommunications company, MTN, has commended the Dakkada initiative of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, which is a clarion call to every sons and daughters of the state, challenging them rise and embrace the virtues integrity, hard work and entrepreneurship.
The commendation was made by Board and Management of the MTN Foundation on Monday during a presentation by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Sam Edoho, with the theme: “Maximising Returns on Social Investment – The Dakkada Model”, at the Ibom Hotels & Golf Resort.
Mr Sam Edoho, in his presentation, noted that with a mindset of self-belief, Dakkada craves a harvest of optimistic sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State who look inwards and utilise their innate potential to bring their dreams to fruition and attain greatness.
According to him, the Dakkada philosophy has motivated Akwa Ibom people to achieve extraordinary feats in every sphere of endeavour as well as inspired a relentless belief in the state, a legacy of endless possibilities, and a sense of pride and value.
Touched by the story of Blessing Emah, who never allowed the circumstance surrounding the demise of her both parents to deter her, but she imbibed the Dakkada spirit and modernised ways of preparing the Ekpankukwo meal in powder form, the MTN Board members, led by the Chairman, MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adelusi, applauded the Dakkada initiative, saying that “It means that you recognise the image of your people and the message that you needed to pass on to them to galvanise them.
“This is one of the fundamental things we pray for; it is not all about building the biggest stadium or the best roads. They are also good but the Dakkada philosophy is what will determine competitiveness of Akwa Ibom State in the years to come because the people are the main resource.
“Tears rolled down my eyes when Blessing Emah was narrating her story. I was moved by her story especially her modernised and simplified way of making Ekpankukwo meal in flour form. It motivates the fact that people outside the country who missed home can as well enjoy the meal while away from home.”
They gave kudos to Gov Emmanuel for the well-thought-out vision, and urged other states to take a cue from it in order to re-orientate the minds of the people for a better tomorrow.
The Dakkada initiative, within the last two and a half years, has changed and redefined the mindset of every Akwa Ibom sons and daughters, from being dependent of the government, to the actualisation of discovering the innate potential and self-belief, and has hitherto reduced the unemployment rate in the state courtesy of the State Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, who has taken the state from predominantly a civil service state to an industrial hub of the nation.
