APC Attacks FG Over Award On Gov Emmanuel
The Akwa Ibom state Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lampooned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, following his presentation of an award of Excellence to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
In an open letter titled NTA’s Award On Governor Emmanuel, signed by the State Secretary of the party, Dr. Efiong Etok, APC condemned Mr Boss Mustapha for attending the event and presenting the award to Governor Emmanuel.
Despite admitting that the Governor had delivered on his campaign promises, they however queried why Mr. Udom Emmanuel, a PDP governor could be given an award by an agency of the APC-led federal government.
“For us, payment of salary and repairing of roads are too basic and routine for an award that requires the SGF to present.
The NTA may therefore have to be a lot more careful, painstaking and thorough in giving out such awards in future.
The letter, dated February 16, 2018, reads in part, “We understand that the NTA chose Udom Emmanuel for this award because he has constructed roads and paid salaries”
The APC expressed anger over award as they classified the achievements as normal routine of government and urged NTA and other federal agencies to desist from considering Governor Emmanuel for further awards.
“We are appalled that the Board and Management of NTA would consider these as an outstanding achievements for a governor whose state earns over N15 billion every month from FAAC, IGR and other sources.”
The APC secretary expressed fears that with the accolades, the profile of the Governor is on a steady growth, making him more popular among his people.
“SGF Sir, we are aware that Mr. Udom Emmanuel will soon use your photograph at the Award event in billboards, newspapers and other publications for advertisement.”
The APC leaders however justified the award by adding that, “SGF Sir, we believed that this was a non-partisan and well-intentioned gesture from the Board and Management of NTA to encourage our government officials in the work they are doing.”
