2019: Okobo Chieftains Endorse Gov’s Aide For House Of Assembly, Pledge Support for Gov Emmanuel
Ward chairmen of Atakoro extraction in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, paid a solidarity visit to the Special Assistant to the on Project Monitoring (Works), Mr Raphael Anwanakak, to pledge their support for his aspiration to represent the good people of Okobo State Constituency in the State House of Assembly come 2019.
The chairmen who are from the five wards of Atakoro – Eweme Ward 1, Eweme Ward 2, Akai Mboupo Ward 1, Offi Ward 1 and Offi Ward 2, led by Mr Friday Jonny Uwak, thanked the governor’s aide for his good works in his present office, and to pledge their support for him for quality representation.
Receiving the chairmen, Mr Raphael Anwanakak, expressed appreciation, saying that he was amazed in sense that he least expected the visit from this crème of people from his community in a time like this.
According to him, the visit has convinced him that the struggle he is about to embark upon will be successful. “I know that success is sure in the beginning of my journey.”
Mr Anwanakak emphasised that Oro Nation has benefited so much from the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel, adding that it is the benevolence of the Governor that an Okobo woman has been appointed as Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly. It is the first since the history of Okobo.
“This is the first time in 30 years in the history or Oron Nation that a democratically-elected governor would develop Oron. We have had various juicy positions in the past, but Governor Udom Emmanuel never promised us any of such positions. But today, Oro is in charge of the Government of Akwa Ibom State.
“Within the short period, government’s presence has been felt massively in Oro Nation. 30 years back, we never had any earth moving equipment in Okobo let alone to construct roads. The Governor has brought development in Okobo. Internal roads in Okobo have been constructed by the Governor Emmanuel-led administration.
“Investors are already on ground to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for factory that will take youths of Atakoro Community out of the streets. The site has already been cleared and contractors will soon swing into action as soon as the MoU is signed.”
“We have to support the Governor for second term to continue his good works. We have to ensure the principles and the norms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are followed to the latter and adhere strictly to the zoning principle. I will serve the party diligently if found worthy.
“For over 20 years, no Aweme son has been given a chance for good representation when it comes to political positions. We are on the right track. In 2019, I’m appealing to you people to give us that chance of electing an Aweme son into the House of Assembly so that we can equally develop those ones from there. Politics is all about development.”
The Chairman of Offi Ward 2, Deacon Etim Okon Simon, in his vote of thanks, thanked Mr Anwanakak for accepting them despite not informing him before coming, saying that leaders don’t fall from heaven like manna, but through behaviours and attitudes towards others. “You don’t make yourself a leader, but people. We have found you fit to represent us in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.”
