Monday Eyo: An Unprecedented Lawmaker In Uyo State Constituency –Etoi Chieftain
Since the people of Uyo State Constituency saw the imperative need of saddling Hon. Monday Eyo with the responsibility of representing them at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), one thing that has really endeared him to his people is honesty.
He is a very calm gentleman who does not revel in blowing his trumpet. But beneath that calmness lays a man who has distinguished himself, made and broken records and equally wakening the political consciousness of the people towards endorsing good governance.
Hon. Donatus Udoh from Afaha Ikot Obong in Etoi Clan, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, a member of the Akwa Ibom Water Company Board, and former PDP Ward Chairman, who has been a partaker in supporting other members into the House of Assembly for the past 18 years, emphatically stated that the current member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Monday Eyo popularly known as Murray, can never be compared with any other previous House member.
One outstanding thing about Hon. Monday Eyo that cannot be compared to previous House members is accessibility. He is one man that does not believe in protocols. His gate is always open to everyone at all times. There has never been his kind in Uyo local government. He is very polite. He is someone who will never tell you what he cannot do. He will never make promises over what he knows he will not be able to fulfil.
Hon. Monday has touched many lives irrespective of backgrounds. He has given scholarships to many students within and outside Uyo, even outside the country. He recently partnered with Rotary International on free medical services held two months ago in Oku where everyone within Uyo was attended to medically without clearance; and has empowered a lot of women to grow their businesses.
It is on record that constituency briefing is very alien to Uyo politics because since democracy came to Nigeria in 1999, no representative of Uyo State Constituency has ever done constituency briefing. But before the end of this month (February), Uyo will definitely have a constituency briefing/empowerment ceremony, courtesy of Hon. Monday Eyo Okon.
Every Uyo indigene knows that the constituency briefing is very vital because it promises to cover so many areas, as people will be given cars, buses, and money to grow their businesses, and Uyo people will have the cause to rejoice that they have a representative.
It is important for the people of Uyo Local Government to embrace and support the second term ambition of Hon. Monday Eyo to continue in his effective representation. Since the zoning is between the four clans of Uyo, and each clan has taken their turn, it is now the turn of Oku person to start the second term.
