…As Lawmaker Makes Account Of Stewardship
By Aniekan Peters
As a build up to the Bumper Constituency Briefing/ Empowerment programme of Rt. Hon. (Elder) Mark Esset coming up soon, the lawmaker played host to the youths of his constituency, under the aegis of Youths Council of Nigeria and the Youth Caucus, on Friday at his Constituency Office in Idiaba.
The meeting which was scheduled to offer a firsthand interaction between the youths and their Assemblyman had the Youth Council and Youth Caucus chairmen as co-hosts.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Eyo Okon, the Chapter chairman of the Youths council, appreciated the youths for their good conducts over the past years, especially during the last year’s LG elections, and urged them not to be used by any politician to cause disaffection in the area.
Mr. Reuben Ibia, the Youths Caucus chairman, advised the youths to desist from any illegal or criminal activities, as no erring youth shall be covered from his/her sins.
Setting the tone for the interaction proper, Hon. Smart Ben (coronated as the Oracle of the Youths) rallied support for the Council Boss, Hon. Emem Ibanga, whom he described as the chairman for all.
Mr. Ben further encouraged the youths to remain steadfast with the party against all odds; taking himself as a case study, when he allowed the party’s decision to prevail over his chairmanship aspiration.
“Remember that you all sent me to represent you and the entire Nsit Atai people as your Council Chairman, but the party decided otherwise, yet I remained silent and calm for the peace of the area. This is how politics should be played.
Accordingly, you have another opportunity to make a choice for the future of our area and Hon. Mark Esset is that future. The experience of having a ranking member of the assembly is a record that must be broken because of his passion for the youths”. Hon. Ben said.
The Political Leader of the area, Atuekong (Obom) Raphael Bassey spoke of the experience, articulation, performance and leadership prowess of Hon. Esset.
He advised that the youths to help push the lawmaker further to any height possible for the good of the area. He ended his speech by charging the youths to remain firm for Gov. Udom and Hon. Esset come 2019.
Hon. Mark Esset on declaring the interaction open, presented his scorecard to the appreciation of the youths, and regretted the actions of some persons who do not mean well for the area and those who go about with the hate slogan,’Mark has not done anything’.
“Today I’m here to correct certain impressions, attend to some lies against me, remind you of my achievements as a legislature, attend to questions of any kind and chart the way forward for our local government.
I therefore declare that you say your minds without fear, ask those questions, talk about those things they say behind me. We are here to engage in a frank talk”.
As part of the discussions, attracting and facilitating more government projects, intervention on the Ikot Abianye- Ibedu- Idikpa bridge, a standard Unity football match, employment and zoning were top of the deliberations.
While responding, Elder Esset took out time to mention his facilitated Constituency projects and explain how legislators execute projects. He also mentioned federal constituency water projects at Okoro Atai and at Ibiaikot Civic center- Idiaba as the works of Hon. Michael Enyong.
Mr. Esset promised to attract more projects to the area and assist the youths through federal and state jobs, organize a standard Unity football tournament with free balls and jerseys to the ten wards as well as a cup and cash prize, among others.
He advised the youths not to allow greedy politicians use them to cause problems in the area, as his aspiration does not stop others from freely contesting. “My records will speak for me”, he added.
After an elaborate engagement, the youths through Mr. Sylvanus Etim from Ward 5 and Mr. Ezekiel Roland from Ward 8 moved and seconded a motion respectively, endorsing Gov. Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Mark Esset for second terms. This was unanimously accepted by the house with singing and celebration.

Idorenyin Udo, the immediate past PDP chapter chairman;Bishop Ime Ekpe, Mr. Barry White, PDP chapter Treasurer; Mr. Emmanuel Okono; PDP youth leader, DPO of Nsit Atai, immediate past leader of the legislative council; Hon.
