Akwa Ibom Youths Warn Politicians Against Fanning Disunity
…Reiterate Support For Gov Emmanuel, Sen Akpabio
Youth leaders in Akwa Ibom State have risen from a meeting in Uyo to distance themselves from any act capable of bringing disunity among the three senatorial districts of the state, and have advised politicians to aim at promoting peace and harmony across the state.
In a 12-point resolution signed by several youth leaders, they pledged their resolve to remain in strong support of the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel for providing good leadership in the state.
Frowning at the recent political developments in the state, the youth maintained that they worked hard for the emergence of the present leadership in the state, maintaining that there was no squabble between the Governor and his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
“We are particularly happy with the superlative performance of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, as well as the effective representation of the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio”, they announced.
They appealed to “politicians not to use this opportunity to settle previous political scores in the guise of supporting the Governor or Senate Minority Leader.”
Speaking further, the youth leaders expressed readiness to work assiduously towards the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel, as well as the re-election of the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio in 2019.
“We call on our Leader/Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, who has performed so well, as well as the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio not to be distracted but be focused and continue in partnership for the overall interest of the Akwa Ibom project.”
Insisting that they will resist attempts to cause a breach of the peace in the State, they called on all leaders and their aides to desist from fanning the embers of disunity through publications and comments on social media platforms.
Among the youth leaders include the State youth council leadership, that of the state youth caucus, the Dakkada Youth coordinator, the coordinator of the Forum of Village Youth Presidents, the Coordinator of Christian Youths and several other groups.
