Massive defection looms in the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the list of appointments into several boards, commissions and agencies of the federal government released last weekend by the presidency without a single youth from Akwa Ibom State .

This has not augured well as the youths in their large numbers have threatened to dump the party and find succor in the youth-friendly PDP in Akwa Ibom State.

This is even as Governor Udom Emmanuel has promised youths of more opportunities and political positions in his administration.

Governor Emmanuel, at the end of year Get-Together by the Youths in Uyo last weekend, reacted to the federal appointments which shut the door against all youths in APC, saying the PDP led-government under his watch has enabled youths emerge as the Speaker of the State House of Assemby, aides of the Governor and even local government chairmen and councilors.

Mr Emmanuel who said his numerous industries and job opportunities are geared towards protecting the interests of youths urged them to continue supporting his administration and the PDP which has placed premium on them as leaders of today.

The federal government in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation announced the appointment of three Akwa Ibom elders as chairmen and 24 others as members of the board with no mention of the thousands of youths who were promised numerous appointments since 2015.

An APC youths leader from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, Comrade Ini Ekanem took to the social media to vent his anger in very strong terms, calling APC a party of liars out to deceive the younger generation.

Comrade Ekanem who is commonly known as Rough Coins, said “We were assured of 40% Youths inclusion in the federal board appointments, our Curriculum Vitae were collected and assumed sent to for screening at Abuja headed by the Secretary of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria.”

The Youth leader who announced his decision to return to PDP said, “APC in Akwa Ibom State is a party made up of experience political business tycoons whose major interest is to frustrate the Youths while they get richer.”

He said further, “I feel deep pity for my friends who are still hanging in the hopeless hope of the APC, I charge you to come back home(PDP) and lets win 2019 together.”

He assured that, ‘the influx of returnees from APC to PDP in 2018 will be thrice the number in 2017, adding that his area in Mkpat Enin and Ikot Abasi have already guaranteed PDP of victory in 2019.

Despite overlooking the avalanche of youths in his latest appointments, President Muhammadu Buhari had been commended by some youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom State.

Another youth leader, Engr. Destiny Young, on his own part, urged President Buhari to take a look at youths in future.

Young, an IT/Strategic Media Communication Consultant and a strong social media influencer supporting the APC, said that younger persons in APC have also made sacrifices in their support of both the APC and President Buhari.

Mr. Young said including youths in subsequent appointments will give the younger people who have also sacrificed for the success of the party and the government, a sense of belonging
“Personally, I am satisfied with the gesture of Mr President, but I will suggest that Mr President in the future considers young people within my age bracket (30-40) to also fill position of authority, this will give the younger people who have also sacrificed for the success of the party and the government, a sense of belonging.

“The critical mass of those who have made some things happen for this government are in that age bracket,” Engr. Young concluded.

While APC youths in Akwa Ibom have been demoralized by the action of the President, a certain group within the APC, the All Progressives Youth Forum [APYF] Akwa Ibom has thanked President Buhari for the appointments.

In a statement signed by one George Udom, the APYF said, “we, the members of All Progressives Youth Forum [APYF] in Akwa Ibom State thank the commander in chief of the armed forces, President Mohammadu Buhari for injecting strength and energy into the APC in our state by appointing these individuals into federal boards, commissions and parastatals.”

“Let’s use this opportunity while thanking President Buhari, to congratulate the following new Federal appointees from Akwa Ibom state.”

The youths who mostly are engaged to rain media attacks on the PDP government in Akwa Ibom were not seen good enough for any position by the President.
