Four Points Hotel: Akan Okon Speaks On Delay In Takeoff

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Hon Akan Okon, has explained the delay in opening of the Four Points Hotel in Ikot Ekpene despite its completion and commissioning in 2015 by former Governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
He said, with the recent acquisition of Starwood group, the initial managers of the Four Points Hotel by Marriott group, the new managers will need some time to access the books before takeoff of the hotel.
Hon. Akan stated this during a media hangout with online media practitioners in the state with a focus on Akwa Ibom Industrialization.
According to him, “Marriott group recently acquired Starwood group who where the initial managers of that hotel. Once the new managers of that hotel are done with book keeping & House Keeping, the hotel will take off.”
The the commissioner added thatthe state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, during the presentation of 2018 budget to Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly budgeted a whooping N54.631 billion for the completion of the hotel and several other projects.
“Government shall also play a vital role in routine maintenance of Government buildings and offices to avoid decay, the Judiciary Guest House presently located at the neck of the entrance to the Government House Complex shall be relocated, other ongoing project of the Ministry such as Ibom International Airport, Ibom Tropicana and Entertainment Centre, maintenance of Godswill Akpabio’s International Stadium Complex and the 4–Point by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene shall receive various levels of attention for completion.
“To achieve these noble objectives, the sum of N54.631 billion is earmarked in 2018 budget.” – Udom Emmanuel while presenting 2018 budget.
The Commissioner also spoke on several other issues such as Ibom Deep Seaport which he said is 75% completed, saying “With the approval of the procurement procedures which will lead to EIO, RFI, RFQ, we can say that we have achieved 75% of the implementation of the Ibom Deep Seaport prior to construction of the Seaport.”
He also said that Ibom Deep Seaport is a well planned and designed project. “The Ibom Deep Sea Port is a well thought out and planned project that’s why you have the Ibom Industrial City attached to the Sea Port. Its a well designed area taking into consideration the issue of congestion”.
On the Maintainance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) facility of the Ibom International Airport, Mr. Akan Okon said Government has reached advanced stage of negotiation with an investor to complete the project.
“The State has reached advanced stage of negotiations with various prospective investors who will come and complete the Maintainance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Ibom Airport. Akwa Ibomites should be patient”
