Gov Emmanuel Sues For Hitch-Free LG Poll
As Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gears up for the December 2nd Local Government Election, the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has called on party faithful, particularly those vying for various offices, to ensure that the election is bereft of violence.
Governor Emmanuel made the call during the flag off of campaigns for the Local Government election held at Uyo Township Stadium.
He spoke of PDP as the party to reckon with in the state and country in view of it track record of providing good governance, adding that the party has in the past elected people into positions of authority with no trace of violence.
He said, “The difference is clear in Akwa Ibom State. As at today, we have one month left. Have you seen other Parties ? Have you heard of any other party? So if PDP returns one hundred percent, what would happen? There is no other party in Akwa Ibom State other than PDP.
“So in the forthcoming election, there should be no violence, we’ve done primaries-there was no violence, we’ve done Ward Congresses – no violence, Local Government congresses – no violence, we done State congresses and there was no violence, so come December 2nd, there should be no violence ”
The Governor pointed out that PDP has distinguished itself with track record of transparency in the distribution of the nation’s wealth and enjoined party faithful to remain United, assuring that the party would take over power at the national level come 2019.
“People say we don’t align with the party at the center, where is the centre? we are here as the largest oil producer in the country. Have you seen anything from the Federal Government? have you seen a road, have you seen any tank farm from the Federal government, what do we have to show?.
“Today, Oil prices have gone over 61 dollars per barrel. Last month the Allocation they gave Akwa Ibom State was lower than the one received in the previous month. How do you explain that? It is only in PDP that there is a show of fairness, justice and equity in this country. He affirmed.”
He welcomed the returnee to the party and assured them of adequate integration emphasizing that as brothers who had been in the party, they have been accepted into the fold.
“Let me advise all those who have come back to us that at times what you see from outside is different from what is inside. There is a saying that all that glitter is not gold. You have gone and have tasted the other party now the difference is clear. I want to reassure them that because they were here and as our brothers, we have integrated them in the party. Even when the prodigal son came back the father accepted him”. The Governor stated.”
Earlier, the Chairman National Caretaker Committee of the Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, observed that the event had lend credence to the fact PDP is like a religion in the state, adding that the return of the serving House of Assembly Member, Hon. Asuquo Archibong, was a boost to the party.
