Idorenyin Udo, Eminence Deflate APC In Nsit Atai
…Woo Sunny Elijah, former AKHA member, 2000 ors to PDP
The Commissioner for Economic Development and Manpower planning, Mr Idorenyin Sunday Udo and the MD/CEO of Eminence Oil, Mr Emmanuel Okon have given the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a shock of their own in Nsit Atai with the defection of their strongman from the area, Prince Sunny Elijah and wife Sarah, with over 2000 others to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state.
The political tsunami also moved the immediate past member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), Hon. (Mrs) Sarah Elijah Akpan, the former deputy majority leader of Nsit Atai legislative council, Hon Ekpenyong and supporters from the APC to PDP.
The defection which was the political handiwork of the Economic Development Commissioner, Mr Udo and Mr Emmanuel Okon took place yesterday, Thursday at Odot, the local government headquarters, and was attended by prominent sons and daughters of area.
Hon. Idorenyin Sunday Udo in his speech stated that Governor Udom Emmanuel is a performer because in Akwa Ibom State, payment of workers’ salary is not an issue. The Governor has entered into a developmental highway, different projects are commissioned.
According to him, if the Governor could do this during this period of recession, he would have been second to none in surplus. “Nsit Atai people have resolved to give him the full support for second term so that he can do more in making the state an economic giant.
“Today marks the total crushing of every opposition structure in Nsit Atai. Nsit Atai is united and endorsed Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term come 2019,” he posited.
Mr Emmanuel Okon, while welcoming the defectors, commended Prince Sunny Elijah for his decision to return to the PDP, expressing happiness for his recognition of the good works that Governor Udom Emmanuel has done in the state, hence his decision to return to the PDP and support Governor Udom Emmanuel for his re-election as Governor come 2019.
The State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, while receiving the decampees, noted that they were on a loan, and have returned after the contract has been terminated.
“On behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I bring you greetings from our amiable Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel. He is fully aware of your coming, and wishes you well in the party. He has mandated me as a leader of the party to take you in and give you your proper place in the party.
“When we said that PDP is a religion, we didn’t mince any word. Those who defected to the other parties have realised that there is nothing over there. As you rejoin us today, your respect, integrity and authority are fully given back to you.”
“All I want is that your coming should not cause disaffection but to unify Nsit Atai. Let it bring a strong bond that Nsit Atai will ever remain PDP.”
Prince Sunny Elijah, in his statement, hinted that he faced serious pressure from the APC trying to convince him not to quit but “I told them they were wasting their time. I did not leave PDP but was on a rescue mission for two and a half years. In those years, I’ve come to know that APC is a party with non-teaching staff. Every institution has non-teaching staff. A non-teaching staff cannot teach. Non-teaching staff and teaching staff cannot work together. I am a teaching staff.
“I’ve gone round the state and have realised that there’s no other winning party than PDP. My returning to the party came from the power received from the realm. Whatever power anyone has today was generated from the realm before it manifests in the physical world.”
“Anytime I go to sleep, I always see myself in an uncompleted building. After praying over the vision, I requested for a sign from God in the just concluded local government chairmanship elections, and it came to pass. And so I decided to return to my brothers and sisters.”
He further stated that his mission statement is to team up with everyone in NsitAtai to return His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, as Governor come 2019. “I don’t have any personal interest except how the Governor can return for second term.”
He thanked the state party chairman and leadership of the party in NsitAtai for coming together to receive him with his crowd back to the party, assuring that as a good politician, he will be obedient, working towards second term of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Also in the team to receive the defectors were Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang; member Representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, Elder Mark Eset; Chapter Chairman of PDP in Nsit Atai, Mr Chrisantus Okon, the Chairmanship candidate for the PDP in Nsit Atai, Lady Emem Ibanga; Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Reorientation, Mr. Joseph Okon; Hon. Lawrence Udosen; State Assistant Secretary of the party, Barr Uduak Johnson, among others too numerous to mention.
