#AkwaIbomAt30: Orange Festival Begins ‘Morrow

All is set for for Orange Festival, the 1st event of #OrangeSeptember scheduled for Saturday, 16th September 2017, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, as part of activities to mark the 30th anniversary of state creation.
A statement by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt Hon Victor Antai, revealed that the week-long event will feature over 180 cultural troupes, drawn from the 31 local government areas of the State.
According to him, the festival parade takes-off by 8.00am from Ikot Ekpene Road by Uniuyo Junction, to Aka Road, terminating at Ibibio Unity Park and will end with a performance by participating troupes.
The Commissioner hinted that the rich cultural assets of Akwa Ibom State will be packaged and promoted during the festival.
Mr Antai further said the parade will attract national and international patronage to Akwa Ibom arts, culture and tourism, maintaining that the event is aimed at rekindling the cultural consciousness amongst Akwa Ibom people.
He beckoned on Akwa Ibom people and art loving Nigerians to attend the event as adequate logistics have been provided to ensure a hitch free festival.
Orange September, a brain child of the Victor Antai-led Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is a series of events planned to celebrate Akwa Ibom at 30 with a mandate to position the state by showcasing the diverse and enigmatic colours of our collective history, unity in diversity, depth and range of our indigenous entrepreneurship.
The events lined up for the Orange September celebrations include Ndoko Akwa Ibom (Miss Akwa Ibom beauty pageant), Ibom Music Fiesta, Dise (a pictorial exhibition), Styles of Akwa Ibom, Ndidia Nnyin (a tasty display of our cuisines)
Orange, the State’s Official Color reflects Akwa Ibom’s lifestyle as an optimistic, sociable, hospitable, adventurous and industrious people.
Orange September will run 16th – 22nd September 2017.
