Imposition Of Cultist Rocks Nsit Atai Chairmanship
The Member Representing Nsit Atai in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), Hon. Mark Eset, has employed threat, brute force, blackmail and bribery to have a way to impose a cultist and school dropout, Mr. Smart Ben, as the Chairman of Nsit Atai in the forthcoming Local Government Area Election slated on December, 2nd, 2017.
Findings by Global Concord revealed that Mr. Smart Ben was expelled from the University of Uyo due to his involvement in cult activities within and outside the University. In a letter of expulsion addressed to him from the office of the Registrar, dated September, 20, 2000 with reference number UU/REG/DAA/SNT/41/VOL.1/457 and signed by the then Acting Registrar, B.U Awaka-ama, the University informed him that it had received “reports of your involvement in secret cult activities within and outside the University. The University views this act as a serious breach of your matriculation oath. Management has decided that you be expelled from the University of Uyo forthwith.
“By this letter, you are hereby expelled from the University with effect from the 1999/2000 academic year…”, the letter reads in part.
It was gathered that on June 7, 2012 the University of Uyo, wrote to the Nigeria Police Force, “D” Department, Force Headquarters, Central Area, Abuja, sequel to an investigation activities against the said Smart Ben by the Police. In the said letter with reference number: UU/REG/DAA/159/VOL.XIX/383, signed by the immediate past Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Edak Umondak, the University said “…records available in the University indicates that Ben, Smart Okon was registered into the University in the 1995/96 academic year. He was registered into the Department of Animal Science for a five year degree programme in the Faculty of Agriculture with registration number 95/UG09674.
“The Management of the University in 1999/2000 academic year expelled Ben, Smart Okon from the University for his Involvement in secret cult activities within and outside the University. This decision was communicated to him in a letter dated September 20, 2000 with reference no: UU/REG/DAA/SNT/41/VOL.1/457. He therefore did not graduate from the University”, the letter reads in part.
Meanwhile, there is serious apprehension among indigenes of Nsit Atai Local Government Area over Ben, Smart because of what they described as “the possible birth of terror” which the chairmanship of Ben may bring if Hon. Esset succeeds in imposing him as the Chairman as the PDP policy of “barring cultists from contesting the forth coming local government poll”.
