Udom Emmanuel: Shoe Size 15’23
“There is always something about your success that displeases even your best friends.” –Mark Twain
On a once faithful day of April 11, 2015, Akwa Ibom people unanimously, overwhelmingly and quite desirous of a new brand of leadership, went ahead to the polls and voted in Mr Udom Emmanuel, a seasoned financial and prudent manager, to man the affairs of the state as Governor.
And on May 29, 2015, the Nigerian Constitution so upheld this meritorious mandate with his subsequent taking of oath of office and duly inaugurated as a substantive, authentic and premium boss managing the top job.
On assumption of duties, he came well defined, distinct and ready to pilot the affairs of state like before. Armed by a people-centred programme, loftily woven, built and encapsulated in his five-point agenda of poverty alleviation, wealth creation, infrastructure expansion and consolidation, political and economic inclusion and above all, job creation and varying opportunities.
Whatever the spew thrash, hate drum rolls, hallucinating propaganda, image barter and character defamation employed to weigh down the credible credentials of the Governor, all those grievous antics will just blow off like a wild wind without destroying the essentials of a marketable brand. Though they may gang up in their devilish execution, all weapon fashioned against Gov Udom Emmanuel will absolutely wave away and the seed of discord sown will hit the rocky soil unyielding.
The Governor sure knew the task of managing and administering a state he inherited in a rough season of harsh economic misfortune, recessional setbacks, policy crackdown, devaluation of the naira and near holocaust entrapment; a man whose corporate background provides a fulcrum for a highly-wired level of connections immeasurable.
Let me submit Gov Udom’s leadership capacity and prowess in the words of Winston Churchill that “In my belief, you cannot deal with the most serious things in the world unless you also understand the most amusing.” In drawing that perception back home, His Excellency sure knows that light-feathered critics who gather less moist will sure always go blind in applauding his strides but on a serious note, he is double-assured that Akwa Ibomites of good hearts and intentions are aware of his utmost desire to change the narratives of leadership with him on board the flight towards a New Project Akwa Ibom. Definitely, all this rabble-rousing antics of cheap political skunks who have mastered the act of grieving and wailing won’t work. To the Governor, it’s an all accelerated gear in governance.
Governor Udom Emmanuel is quite equipped in all ramifications and he is aware that the era of playing politics with development is long gone and behind us. He realises that to move ahead, one must indeed ignore creeping pedestrian echoes of less well-wishers. The Dakkada philosophy encapsulates it all, the need to rise to the podium of greatness.
Gov. Udom Emmanuel is tactical in his management approach and it all boils down to long years of experience in the corporate circle. In a harsh investment climate, with investors confidence at all time low, and the exchange rate oscillating like a yo-yo, Akwa Ibom still has the wherewithal to attract Forex Inflow by investors for development activities. When they are busy mouthing all incendiary rhetoric of their hate party. Gov Udom Emmanuel’s sustainable development drive is fast drowning the claptrap of the naysayers and making them look stupid and supine in the court of public opinion.
It’s destination Akwa Ibom… a roadmap for investment and industrialisation, and who the shoe fits, let him wear it…
