Man, 45, In Jail Over MaizeTheft
A 45-year old man, Ajayi Adetona, was on Tuesday sentenced to three months in jail by a Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for trespassing into a maize farm and stole the produce.
The suspect, who resides at Kugbo, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and robbery, culpable under Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
Adetona, be that as it may, confessed to the charges when perused to him in the dock.
He asked the court to temper equity with leniency, saying, “I ask sir, I and my family eat the maize,”.
The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, summarily attempted the convict, following his confirmation of carrying out the wrongdoings and condemned him.
Ishaq, be that as it may, gave Adetona a choice of N7, 000 fine.
The judge said that the convict should pay N4, 000 to the agriculturist, Felicia Timothy, through the court, as pay for the stolen maize.
The prosecutor, Helen Ashasim, had prior told the court that the issue was accounted for to Karu Police Station by the complainant who lives in Kugbo territory of the FCT on Aug. 6.
Ashasim said that the convict had on the said date trespassed into the ranch of the complainant and stole her maize worth N10, 000.
As indicated by the prosecutor, the rancher announced that the convict had made it a propensity to go into her homestead to take.
