The President/CEO of African Media Network (AMNETT), Elder Aniekan Umanah, has said that the construction of Akwa Ibom State Governor’s lodge as proposed to be sited in Lagos, will bring ambience, prestige and solid investment for the state.
He said this on Thursday in his reaction to news publications on some quarters of the media criticizing the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, over the construction of a new lodge.
Elder Aniekan said: “Having a Governor’s lodge in Lagos and Abuja is not a new thing in Nigeria. State Governments have maintained this tradition to ensure Governors have a private and conducive location for engagements in those big and activity driven cities.
“For Akwa Ibom, the old Governor’s lodge on Bishop Aboyade Cole had come under serious dilapidation. The idea of a new Governor’s lodge had been contemplated by Government for a long time.
“We must understand the nature of our system and why certain things must be in place. We must also separate the office of the Governor from the occupant.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel will sometime in 2023 complete his time and another person will come on board. He will not take home the Governors lodge whether the one in Uyo, Abuja or Lagos.
“I recall when the former Governor and Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, wanted to pull down the old dilapidated lodge in Uyo for a new and befitting one, some of our people went to town, called him names, published offensive advertorials but that did not deter him.
“He built a world class lodge. He lived there and vacated same in the fullness of time.
“Gov Udom is the occupant today and so shall until the fullness of his time.”
The AMNETT boss however reiterated his continuous support for the Governor, saying “To our dear Governor, please do not loose sleep. You have the backing of the people through the House of Assembly. Go on. Build a good lodge in Lagos.
“It will bring ambience, prestige and represents solid investment for the state in a tier one market. God bless Akwa Ibom State.”
